Assuming Vivi has 40,000 Gil (1/8th of reasonable amount of party Gil at end of game according to the FFRPG rulebook, pg. 37). Assuming that each coin is worth 500 Gil (for ease of carrying), that means Vivi has 80 coins.
I'm going to assume that Vivi's gil is made of a silver alloy of a typical 75/25 mixture and that each coin weighs 5g. Incindetally, this means Vivi's carrying 80 x 5 = 400g of coins.
Since 75% of each coin is silver, that means each coin contains 3.75g of silver (75% of 5g)
Since Vivi has 80 coins, that means he's carrying about 300g of silver total.
According to the MetalPrices.com. calculator, 300g of silver is equal to 9.65 Troy ounces.
Silver closed at US$33.54/oz yesterday.
Thus, Vivi has 33.54 x 9.65 = $323.66 of silver.
THEREFORE, we have an ad hoc exchange rate of US$1 to 123.59 Gil
