First of all, wow, this is my 100th icon post here at gosh_darn_icons (which, considering how long ago I made this comm, is not actually very impressive? I've taken many extended breaks from iconning?). I feel like I should mark the occasion in some way, but haven't figured out yet how to do so. Keep your eyes peeled, I guess. But anyway, these icons are for Round 30 of 20inspirations where the theme was "Adventures in Wonderland", so the goal was to make weird/interesting/unusual/unexpected icons. I had a lot of fun with these, and I hope you guys like them! I've listed my inspirations below (plus some addition thoughts on each icon which are under cuts, so don't feel like you have to read any of them xD)

Inspirations
1. Graphic by loislanes[Thoughts]
Originally I was planning on making this a green icon like the graphic, but then I made a bunch of space textures for contextures and ended up using those instead. One thing I really liked about this challenge was that it pushed me to take popular caps (like this one) and go outside the box to give it a new look.
2. Texture by queen-bartonia + Word: inverted + Icon by library-of-sex[Thoughts]
I'm really happy with this one! It's one of the last few that I made; you'll see this icon in the alternates, it was my first attempt to make something with this texture. I do like the texture a lot and on one hand I wish I hadn't obscured so much of it because the lines and dots remind me of constellations and the circles remind me of Gallifreyan, but ultimately I wanted something a little bolder and more interesting and less reliant on the original texture. I really like this cap of Amy but the background was too busy so I painted over it, but tried to give it the look of the original background, if that makes sense. I didn't want it to look like a cutout, even though it was.
3. Graphic by calikalie[Thoughts]
Kalie's graphic is just stunning, I love it, and so I tried to be extra careful to not completely rip off the look of it xD Definitely inspired by the buildings in the background combined with the colourful elements, but I wanted to give it a different colour profile and a much more textured look. The original caps also have buildings in the background, but I used a different image for the silhouette. And yeah, it's a combo of two caps, for the poses. There are some simpler versions in the Alternates which I personally prefer, but I think this was better suited to the challenge.
4. Word: Obscure[Thoughts]
I don't think I've ever iconned this cap before, which is just ridiculous because it's such a lovely Eleven/Amy moment. The idea behind this one ended up being that Amy is really obscured and hard to see and blending in with the paint in the background, and it's like how Amy kind of washes over the Doctor's life like a sudden brush stroke on a canvas. I like the subtle muted colours here but I think I may try to recreate it with more vibrant colours some day in the future.
5. Icon by violateraindrop[Thoughts]
Just a clean simple icon like the one in the inspiration. Originally the plan was to do a side crop like violateraindrop's but I ended up likely how the pink colouring looked on her lips and wanted to keep that in. (I did mostly erase one of her eyes to make the crop work. That's kind of weird?). This is one of only 2 icons in the whole batch where I didn't cut anything out from the background! This one and #8. Everything else has a fake background or some kind of cutout going on, including the closeups in #7 and 20. Basically what I'm saying is this icon was a breath of fresh air xD
6. General Theme + Icon by tunaeverynight[Thoughts]
I saw the sunflowers in tunaeverynight's icon and OF COURSE I needed to make an Amy icon. You'll see in some of the Alternates, I used a pretty sunset background and then ultimately decided to keep the focus on Amy and the flowers.
7. General Theme + Graphic by jongritte[Thoughts]
I really like this one, even though it's not that different from things I've made before, I just have a lot of feelings about this episode and this moment and this character. I probably could have claimed just Amy in the Eleventh Hour and still made 20 icons no problem. There's a gap between 11 and Amy in the original cap so I blended them together. I like that the text is fairly unreadable but probably people could still figure it out based on the popularity of the quote? ("Then I grew up"/"Oh, you never want to do that"). And I think this moment really reminds me of Alice in Wonderland and the desire for childhood wonder.
8. Word: Inverted + Word: Sharp[Thoughts]
This was the first one I made I think, and I was going for a weird colouring. It's a really bright scene so I wanted to give it a really different look.
9. Word: Explosion[Thoughts]
I like this one! This and #18 have a similar vibe, but I wanted this one to look more painted, and I used a bunch of paint textures in the background. I love Amy's passion for art and I wanted to bring that in to the set in some way.
10. Texture by fuuurs[Thoughts]
Hmm, this one is kind of boring, idk, not sure what my thinking was here. Originally I was going to put sunflowers with this cap instead of #6 but it didn't end up working, so I just picked a different flower texture. I like how the purple looks with the red of Amy's hair but I'm pretty ambivalent on the rest tbh.
11. Icon by absolutelybatty + Texture by rebel[Thoughts]
Aw, another cap that I've wanted to icon for a while but never bothered to cut out before (#4 being the other). There are some Alternates of this cap which are prettier imo but I like the sort of weirdness of this. The orange/yellow/purple colour combo is one that I don't think I've used very much?
12. General Theme[Thoughts]
I made some notes when I was first trying to come up with idea for icons and one of them was "Amy with paint instead of hair", so this was kind of that. I really like the colours and that it gave a new look a scene that I've iconned many times before.
13. General Theme + Icon by misstress_tink [Thoughts]
Actually my initial inspiration for this sparked when I was looking through my post for 20inspirations Round 17, Down the Rabbit Hole, which was kind of a prequel round to this round a few years ago, and wanted to use some of the repetition and colours I used back them (this + this + this), and then added a whole bunch of textures. This is definitely one of the weirdest ones in the batch and I'm actually not sure how much I like it? I go back and forth on it.
14. General Theme[Thoughts]
I really really like this one. I saw this cap of Amy and it gave me Little Red Riding Hood vibes (actually, it reminded me of the Hard Candy movie poster but that poster has a Little Red Riding Hood thing going on too) Anyway. So I liked the idea of alluding to that, and originally I was going to put a wolf or something, but then I thought about the whole Rose/Bad Wolf thing and ended up using a cap from that. I made the background very monochromatic so that the shadow I put under Amy would show up, and to keep her the focus. The text was kind of purposeful, kind of because I don't think the allusion in the icon is actually that clear without it?
15. Word: Disguise[Thoughts]
Whattttt was I thinking with this icon. I know it doesn't look that weird but ugh. The whole point of it was that this cap does not lend itself to bright colours. IT DOES NOT. Even when you brighten it, it's still weirdly blue, and even when you try to remove the blue, the shadows are gross and green, and... Most icons and graphics I've seen from this scene end up embracing the blue, but not me. I'm a fighter. Most of the cap I ended up desaturating and then recolouring section by section with lots of Soft Light and Color layers and layer masks. And then the text was a whole other thing, idk, I love the look of mix-and-match retro fonts but I haven't had the confidence to try it before.
16. Graphic by renlybaratheon[Thoughts]
I did that thing that people do where they get rid of the face and replace it with something else! I planned on making her face just one big sunflower but it looked too creepy for my taste so this is a bit more subtle. I think my whole thing with this set was to make icons that are weird but still useable, you know?
17. Icon by oviedo[Thoughts]
I love the muted green colouring in oviedo's icon. I love this cap of Amy holding the apple, I love this episode, I love Amy, I will never stop being sad about the turn her storyline took in Series 6, etc, etc.
18. Word: explosion + Texture by madeofstone [Thoughts]
The original cap is fairly dark and dull so I couldn't resist making a really bright icon. I just wanted a ton of colour. The tiny text was a late addition but I think it really makes it, the yellow helps add some variety to the colours? I made Amy's hair really bright on purpose, that's the one thing I hesitate about because it does look less natural than I would normally colour it, but I think it works okay with the overall style of the icon? I've recoloured her hair many times and kept adjusting the contrast but eventually I just had to stop xD
19. General Theme + Texture by queen_bartonia[Thoughts]
Oh my god I love this one. I made it on a much bigger canvas so I don't know how much detail actually comes across but just conceptually it's the one that I'm happiest with. So "Through the looking glass, Amelia?" is a quote from a Series 7 episode, and that's a reference to Alice in Wonderland which of course is perfect for this challenge, and then what I wanted to do was have young Amelia looking into a mirror and seeing her older self on the other side, but I'm not sure how clear that is now that it's 100x100. Either way, I'm very happy with how it came together - I think I found the perfect cap to go inside the mirror and she was wearing red in both so that was nice. And all together it just reminds me of Amy's final monologue, "There's a little girl waiting in a garden. She's going to wait a long while, so she's going to need a lot of hope. Go to her. Tell her a story. Tell her that if she's patient, the days are coming that she'll never forget" because I just picture little Amelia waiting for so many years and how wonderful it would be if she could have seen her older self.
20. Word: Obscure[Thoughts]
I think this is actually the same cap as #7, but hopefully it looks different enough xD Yay, this makes three icons of the scene where Amy holds the apple! I love that scene! Anyway, so the point of this icon is to change up the focal point, because in the original cap Amy is in focus and the apple is blurry. This is actually a blend of two caps, I blurred Amy in this cap, and then cut out a shot where the apple was in focus.
