1-month update

I've lived in Somerville for about a month now, and so far it's been pretty agreeable. I'm not paying a whole lot more for rent -- if we count "actual money leaving my bank account" instead of "my theoretical share of the rent," I am paying much less -- and the neighborhood has a much lower "people constantly shoot each other right down the street" factor. I need to walk down the block to the laundromat to wash my clothes, but that's a sacrifice I can deal with.

The roommates seem okay; Megan seems to be of a temperament similar to mine, while J is (as Megan described her when I visited prior to signing the lease) a little more "BLAAAUGH!" I'm not sure she's yet figured out that the reason my cat isn't into playing with her is that she expresses her affection for animals through increased volume, and Smudge is used to people talking more softly. All in all, they seem like much better people to live with than the rotating collection of rogues and drama queens that ended up costing me somewhere around $3000 before I moved.

My room is much larger than the old one, and I still haven't completely finished deploying all my knickknacks and miscellaneous belongings. I haven't put up any posters, and I don't think I will; I had the vague idea that it would be more stimulating to decorate the walls only with things I drew myself. The theory here is that blank walls will motivate me to de-rust my sketching abilities, which have lain fallow for quite some time. I'm much less stressed out than I was at this time last month, but I still feel like my creativity is still on standby -- at least, the part that has to do with actualizing ideas.

I've read more books in the past few weeks than I think I did all last year.
