Posting while it's still Halloween!
I wanted to make sure I got this in before I collapsed.
This morning I dragged myself to school and provided hot cocoa for 3rd period and Jones mini-sodas to 2nd and 1st. All supplies were already on hand. Students were also permitted to take the ball (found in an abandoned supply closet) outside to play. You would have thought I was handing out bars of gold and pointing the way to a peaceful afterlife! Then again, love that comes by bribery is so fickle. I honestly just wanted to so something nice, for no reason, and oh yeah was it October 31st to boot? Fancy that.
Afternoon? I napped. Did not assist much with the Scary House setup save for pulling out black/lace/spiderweb cloth/fabric by the yards and getting asked, "Why do you have this stuff?" only to smirk and realize they know nothing of my LARPing save that I drive a stoopid time/distance to get to it. But our house was once again awesome this year. It was even extra awesome since every H-Ween we accumulate more and more stuff and put that out, too.
I predicted the hot ToT times to start at 6 and taper off between 8 and 9. I was half-right. Our first kid showed up at 5:50, we had barely gotten things tied down. The rest of the night was the slowest it had been in, what, five years? My sisters and I are thrilled at our parents finally coming around to the holiday (our brother just gets embarrassed, bah), and all three of us were there tonight, only to be disappointed by the slow turnout. Sure, we spooked some kids and silly-string-ed some tweeners, it just was not the same traffic flow as the halcyon days of our childhood. From 7:45 on, all we got were the twin visits by the same pair of poorly-costumed, plastic-bag bearing teenagers, and although "But no one else is coming, so we should be able to have more candy!" made sense, I replied, "Well, you can have more silly string. Sis, if you would?" We're so generous.
Then I met V and Z and NT over at Jojo's for TV and TGIF's. Initials and acronyms are fun! I appreciate Z showing up as 'Optimus Prime' and trying to debase my childhood memories, but other than that it was mildly disappointing to be the only person (besides Jojo! she rawks) in costume. Er, and makeup. Still had a good time. I just wanted to go out in public dressed up, and finally had a reason.
What can I say? Any excuse to put the stuff on.
There will be other tricks and treats a coming, because I know exactly what to dish out to whom!
