new exploration! there's a nordic peppermint cinnamon schnapps liqueur down at the queen anne liquor store. ULLR. Of course i bought it. I'm half norwegian. Yup, it's Schapps. but the writing on the label totally makes it worth it:
"He is a god of snow; the one called Ullr. Son of Sif, step-son of Thor. He is so fierce a bowman and ski-runner that none my contend! He is quite beautiful to look upon and has all the characteristics of a warriro. It is wise to invoke the name of Ullr in duels."

that shit's awesome. i looked up the Gylfaginning since i've seen it referenced so many god damn times when i was reading up Ragnarök. it's apparently *the* middle ages reference guide to norseman folklore. i love it i fuckin swear. also while looking it up i ran into 'the prose edda' which is one dude's attempt to record the norse ballad writing style. 8 bucks @ b&n online. next paycheck.
and as for beer, metropolitan market has picked up a stock of this 14% Samichlaus. Castle Brewery Eggenberg Austria, wherever the fuck that is. i'm disappointed really. probably because a day or so before i drank this i had an 11% [can't remember the name] that tasted along the same lines, only more robust and with more character. that's to say they both struck me as a barley wine, though they're not marketed as such [as far as i can tell]; however this one's flavor paled and the flavors seemed watered down, while the other one made more of a statement with a robust amber stream owning your tongue somehow not hiding the different characters behind the initial statement.
aparently arrogant bastard has an 'oaked' ale. i'm not sure i like this shit. i bout a sixer [not cheap,but part of the beer budget] and swilled one last night. i'm going to have to snag one and bring it around for liquordrums to try. it seems ... smoother... like they took the bastard out of the bastard. i'll need the two side by side to be sure.
tonite: Zamkowe. I have no idea. some polish shit that was on the shelves up at big star. to be clear, i generally get things i'm interested in, but since i budged myslelf, i chose to pick up a few of their cheaper ones just for volume. it's good, but it strikes me as a heavy heffewisen. heffiweisen's offend me on principal, so i'll probably slam a shot of that nordic schnapps so i don't walk away feeling like i've been had.
