Sticking a ruler in the snow the other day = 6". Yeah, we (US Deep South) haven't had snow like this since what, 1988? Usually an inch or two that melts the next day (ice, though, we get plenty of that regularly). But, snow! Started Monday night and schools and such have been closed all week so far. It'd be nice if the kids at least had to go Friday, just to get an easy push back into regular schedule before next week (and also to keep from losing so many days at spring break), but I'm not holding my breath. Anyway, the neighborhood kids built a fantastic fort that hopefully I can get a picture of tomorrow.
Keep getting 2/3 of the way through posts and then never finishing, or at least posting. Perseverance! Here we go.

By the time my mother and I got back from
spiritedartist's baby shower Sunday evening, I was simultaneously very ready to be out! from behind the wheel and for some seriously hardcore road-tripping to somewhere sunny, blue-skied, and green, preferably coastal. Damn, but I've been tired of this blah dead brown landscape for like two months already. I think a minimum two weeks of sitting on the beach, doing absolutely nothing but napping in between staring at the water sounds gloriously perfect right now.
Either that or I'm going to suddenly turn up on
naeelah's doorstep all WORK SCHOOL REAL LIFE PFFFFFFFFFFFF MUSEUMS AND TASTY THINGS NOW.

Languishing in the unfinished file: holidays and weekends with the ladies.

Christmas books:
Not pictured: Emma Donoghue's
Kissing the Witch, out on loan to L.
Notes: The movie books were $3 a piece at the UBS. Rest of the gift card to be apportioned variously between A Conspiracy of Kings, Ooku #5, The Left Hand of Darkness, or any of the KCDS I don't have. Spent the first few days of my snow week sleeping sleeping sleeping reading my way through the pile. Not the place for a complicated DFW fan reaction.

There was a long spell there where no fabric at HL remotely interested me, and then whatever shipment they got in over the holidays, I wanted at least a third of it. To wit: found a lovely green/blue/purple dot-cluster-spattered fabric that I want to use to make
this pattern. (
A finished version of it.)
What a
hideously ugly coat.
This one, however, is very nice.
Bateau neck! Kimono sleeves! Pouffy skirt! Simplicity needs to reissue
this pattern posthaste.
Repurposing one of two last-minute sewing projects:
Have decided I will use the bottom-left blue for a some sort of summer (scooped-out-boatneck? semi-full-skirted?) dress, with something like
these squids (and maybe whale or two) appliqued around the skirt, a shrug/etc out of the sky blue, and the dots for a pocketed dress. Goals! We'll see.
Took other still active project with me today and discovered I'd actually taken only the fabric and a pair of scissors. Oh well, better luck tomorrow.
Hot damn, I think I can be in bed by 8. Goals? Goals.
