Those of you who have me on FB (as Xavier Navarro) know that I've got more white hair on my beard (I'd say 30 to 40%) and I've lost some significant weight.
The thing is that, after trying on my own too many times, I went through the "classic" way (at least here) of going to an endocrinologist and get referred to a dietist. Since I work for an insurance company, I got for Sergio and I a simple additional private medical insurance for things like this. So I started seeing a dietist in May and I started a very "normal" diet where I basically (as usual) reduced on carbs. I was also prescribed to practise some sport and I've been good at this for at least three months: I swim and I do go to the gym. I've joined a
municipal sport facility very close to my office, which turns out to be very affordable although it's a little overcrowded sometimes. The only problem there is that we're short on eye-candy :)
Anyway. What I've been doing is eating very "normal" and very seasonal but I've introduced snacks throughout the day (fruit and nuts). I also have three "almost-vegetarian" days, or four meals (five sometimes). Bear in mind that our lifestyle in South Europe is very different: our lunch is a full huge meal and dinner should be lighter. In my case dinner is 75% of lunch, so these 4 vegetarian meals are three lunches and one (or two) dinners - And they're nothing fancy. I can also cheat every once in a while since there is no special "state" like when you're on Atkins or Dukan (which is now the "big hit diet" here)
When I got diagnosed coeliac's disease in July, the dietist "updated" the meal plan with a couple of gluten-free things. Since I'm not supposed to eat bread save for breakfast, it was quite simple but believe I miss wheat bread a lot (and the occasional beer). The substitutes are quite good, I have to say (this
Italian brand is currently my favourite but it's a little expensive), but they cannot compare to the "real stuff".
Number-wise, I have to say that I once reached 110kg in 2005-06. In 2009 I was about 100 (or 99-101). The first diet plan lowered to 90-ish but I was climbing back up to 95kg. This morning, I was 86, 9 less, than I was in April. It might not seem an huge achievement (My friend David has lost 17kg with the Dukan diet in two months) but having peace of mind about being able not to get desperate about food is quite important.
