Joining a new club

A couple of months ago I had a tube inserted up my rectum to check why I've been anemic for more than 2 years. That, in addition of a specific analysis have determined that I'm a coeliac. Up to this moment, I didn't have any perception that this could happen. As far as I know, just badgerpdx has the same issue in my friends list. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm currently following a weight loss diet controlled by a dietician. Up to today, it's easy to fix that diet to eliminate the little gluten I was eating (name: cereal bars twice a week as a snack and toast in the morning) but I'm visiting the dietist again to continue with this, albeit adapting my diet to the gluten-free requirements. It seems that a low-wheat diet I've followed (with some exception) during most of my adult life just to reduce carbs to not to gain weight has served me good.

I stopped at a large supermarket to check the gluten-free section and I got scared about the prices. Everything costs 5 times as much as the standard wheat counterparts. Local blogs, in fact, recommend using homemade everything, from bread to pasta and cookies. I don't have to worry too much now, since my current diet has little of that (I have carbs as chickpeas, squash and whole rice).

Anyway. At this point I'm just depressed. I know this is nothing important and it's easy to adjust. But it's a pain in the butt to say no to bread, pizza, normal pasta and beer. Some of the foods I love the most

coeliac, sick
