One of the thing my bf has in France and which makes our Telecoms look nasty and overpriced (they are) is what he gets for so little. His internet/dsl TV/phone service is only
€30 per month (19.6% VAT included). That includes 20 MB download internet, unlimited landline calls to 89 countries (calling a mobile phone is usually more expensive than calling South Africa, for instance) and 100 short of TV channels, including 15-20 in HD via his DSL connection and even the Catalan Television. Impressive! Even more when he's getting optic fiber in 1-2 years with 100 MB speed for the same price, once it reaches his town. Just for sake of comparison, I pay €40 for no TV, 3MB download and just landlines to Spain. And let's not speak about mobile phone prices, or I will just cry.
Anyway, while Dominique was cooking crêpes for dinner yesterday, I saw on Paris Première
a very funny program and I discovered a French invention, called Scopitone. It was a sort of jukebox that showed 16mm films as well, so you could see a sort of "music video" avant la lettre, as well as listening to the tunes of the season. Of course, just the most commercial stuff made it here. For instance,
Nino Ferrer's Oh! Hé! Hein! Bon!
