Although it was released on some cinemas last Friday, David my exroomate and me went to see the pre-release of this film in Spain, which was sponsored by FNAC. We had to go to the opposite side of the city, though. But it was free cinema and, seriously, we enjoyed it a LOT.
Neither David nor I had laughed so much with a film in years, and we ended the film with a smile in our faces and singing like crazy inside the car on the way back to Pl Catalunya so he could take the night bus to Sitges and I could go back home. Even a police patrol laughed when they stopped by us at a traffic light and heard us singing "Dancing Queen".
I haven't seen the musical, which has been about 8 months in the city - basically because of the €50 price tag inside a former sports palace with very poor sound conditions, but I think I'll try to make it - although they told me that translating the songs was a crime.
Although I still don't like Meryl Streep, and I have never liked her, I think the rest of the cast was great. And the location? Wow... We kept saying "where have they hidden the blocks", since it's like our Mediterranian scenery, just that ours in Spain is completely destroyed thanks to estate speculators.
We're surely recommending this to everybody we can. And on the cinema screen, so you can read the subtitles while seeing the beautiful photography.
Of course, you also need to forget you're with people and sing along.
