god this thing is amazing: north beach being the "tenderloin area" of san francisco, the presidio being dangerous at night (?), the subversive, secular presence of neon signs . . . just amazing.

the pretense for this glorious smear job is that obama got elected, and he is a little liberal, and our politicians are more liberal, and that the moral decline of our city, which is so dangerous because of homeless people, pot dispensaries, strip clubs and neon signs, is what the rest of the country can expect from the obama administration? i guess? he doesn't really explain, but i don't get the timing of an anti-san francisco piece right now. he could have but didn't mention the liberal wins on the board of supervisors two weeks ago, but then the city also voted fairly conservatively on local ballot measures.

it seems like the song is supposed to provide some contrast. i might be reading it wrong, but that seems like a pretty standard bad tv journalism device. like listen to how nice san francisco used to be, but look at all these gross homeless people and stoners. because no one was living in the park or taking drugs in san francisco in the 1960s, back when it was a "working class city blessed with natural beauty."

also, he says karl malden and michael douglass wouldn't recognize freaky, freewheeling san francisco. wasn't that cultural shift exactly what that show was about?

ALSO this is in the unresolved problem segment of the show! The city is an unresolved problem!! if this is what we can expect from fox news over the next eight years, i'm pretty excited.
