Had a very hard run tonight. Decided I'd better get back with the program and start running again. I was planning on starting bright and early this morning however my wife kept me up late, and 6am came too soon. Instead I resigned to running in the evening -- only I didn't eat much all day (granola bar for breakfast & lunch, and a tiny snack pack of chips for a snack). So I got home and decided I had too many excuses and needed to put them all in their place and just went for a run.
It was 85°, sunny, humid, and I ran into a fair headwind the entire way out. On an empty stomach that was very hard work! Then on the way back running with the wind (which equals no wind since I'm running at the same pace pretty much) the heat hit me pretty hard. I trudged through though and got my 4.5 miles in. Just to add icing to the cake on my way back home (about 3 blocks from my house) I got chased by a dog. The owners were in the front yard doing yard work and this beast of a hound dog decided he didn't like me and laid chase (and he was pretty darn quick too). When I realized I was being chased I turned around, got big (ger) and yelled at the dog nice and loud. About that time he decided he had picked on the wrong runner and returned quickly to his owner (all of this transpired in roughly 1 second). As if my heart rate wasn't already high enough (averaging 163 for the run) a brief encounter with a dog sure raised it another dozen or two bpm's.
Well, that's about all I got. g'night!
