materials:
2 balls jager fur, black. [or the color you want]
stitch marker
2 sets size 15 - circular needles. one 14" one any length

HAT:
CO 28 sts with 14" circular. place marker, join to knit in round.
round 1: K
round 2: P
repeat until piece meas. 6".
decrease round 1: *K2tog, k6* repeat until end
round 2: P
round 3: *k2tog, k5* repeat until end
round 4: P
round 5:*k2tog, k4* repeat until end
{switch to double circulars} {www.knitty.com for directions on that if you dont know.}
round 6:*p2tog, p3* repeat until end
round 7:*k2tog* repeat until end
cut yarn with 10" tail. string remaining sts onto yarn and pull tight. weave in ends.

EAR FLAPS:
pick up 5 sts along brim edge of hat
rows 1&2: K even in garter st.
row 3: k2tog, k1, k2tog
rows 4&5: K
row 6: k3tog
pull out loop of the one remaining st until it is 17" long. then cut yarn with 17" tail.
cut loop and braid the 3 resulting pieces of yarn together for 9", tie knot and cut ends.
repeat for other earflap

use extra yarn to make 2 pom-poms if you want!
