Holy attempted homicide, Batman:

May 14, 2006 20:06

So I was driving home going south on 99E, and I see a big cloud of dust appear as a green SUV drives across the dirt divider between a couple of parking lots on the left hand side. A couple of teenagers on bikes suddenly dart out of the cloud across the highway with disregard to all traffic, and I realize that the SUV had just attempted to run them both over.

One of the kids went straight across to the other side and dropped his bike at the train tracks and bolted on foot. The other kid continued south-ish with the SUV on his tail attempting to get to the other side. At one point the SUV was right next to me and I could see that it was full of hispanics, and the person in the front passenger window was wearing a blue bandana. I passed the SUV and tried to get the license plate, but either it was on the dash, or they just took it off the front completely. I tried turning around at a convenience store to see if I could get the plate from the back, but by the time I was able to get back on the highway the SUV was gone.

It happened so quickly I wouldn't be able to identify any of them without resorting to racial profiling, and I had no plate number.. But I called 911 and gave my statement to the operator.

I knew there were gangs in Canby (Evidenced by the graffiti that I had applied to my street facing rock wall), but I figured that they were just punk kids tring to prove that they're badasses. ("Eas'side is betta! No Wes'side is betta!") Didn't know things escalated to attempted murder in broad daylight with witnesses driving all around.
