Mia was quite glad on this day that she's had plenty of experience speaking in front of crowds. Though that didn't really stop her from feeling nervous as she stepped up to greet the audience.
"Good afternoon, friends from far and near, and welcome to our presentation. For many of you, this is your first visit to Vane, and it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our city that has persevered through so much, this city that I'm very happy to call home. Some of you may be new students to the Magic Guild, working to find your place in our esteemed ranks. Worried that you might not be good enough, that what we do is out of your grasp. My friends, every single performer you will see tonight started out the same way, even those that have grown up here and seen magic all of their lives. These people are the skilled alumni of the Magic Guild, who have dedicated themselves to the various types of magic. Some are tied to the very elements of our world: earth, wind, lightning, water, and fire. Some are the compositions of clever mages, hexes and jinxes, potions of all sorts, even invention not unlike our neighbors to the south in Iluk. I assure you, you will figuratively and quite possibly even literally be spellbound. So without further ado, we're going to start tonight's program with one of our Premiers, Master Nash Rumack."
At that, Mia left to get out of her usual Guildmaster robes and into her firedancing outfit while Nash proudly showed everyone the practical uses of electric magic with a simple invention like a toaster to make life easier.
By the time she had readied herself, the interns from Dragonlight had finished their potions demonstration of Shrinking Solution and Ageing Potion on chuckobu chicks.
"You did a wonderful job with that," she says as they come in through the lounge, carrying the restored chicks. "I'll let my husband know that you're all likely deserving of a raise."
One of them, a young lady, doubletakes and says, "We couldn't ask that, Majesty Mia, not with what's going on with your family."
"Oh don't be silly," Mia insists. "All of you deserve it. I'm sure Master Draco won't mind. Now go ahead and get to where you want to be. You won't be able to see soon."
There was a brief mutter of confusion before they continued on their way.
Once Mia was sure that everyone was still at last, she made use of her recently-acquired Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder and her borrowed Hand of Glory. (Won't Draco be surprised by how she decided to use it?)
The crowd gave a great gasp as the darkness engulfed them, but the cool heads of the Magic Guild staff gently reminded everyone to stay calm. Mia made her way out to her position, the Hand of Glory guiding her steps. She set it down once in her place, relaxing her body. And when the darkness lifted...
...she danced.
