Malfoy Manor: Draco's Birthday

Jun 05, 2009 17:49

There was bustling in the kitchen of Malfoy Manor, but with a human chef for the first time in its history. Not only was Mia putting the kitchen to its first good use in years, she was thoroughly enjoying doing so. She's not used to using spells here and there to aid in her cooking, but since she's cooking so much, she needs a little help ( Read more... )

Outside, all three Apparated to the outside gardens, just inside the gate.

Narcissa was giving a delighted coo at seeing the estate again, and Lucius was nodding approvingly as they walked toward the building. They seemed relaxed for the moment, relieved to see their home restored like it was to something of its former glory.

Hopefully they will like the inside of the estate, and the food. Mia, for simplicity's sake, waved her wand over to the cake so the nearby utensils will decorate it themselves.

She's setting out the tea and the places at the table so she can come around later with the filet mignon.

Mia's surprised it came out so good, as Draco was better at making it earlier that week.

She wipes the sweat from her brow with the back of her arm.

They approved of the inside, and all noses were twitching at the smells.

The parents knew it was partly because of Mia that they got the Manor back. Still it didn't stop the elder pair from stiffening up visibly at the sight of her.

Draco meanwhile strode over and bussed her cheek for a kiss, "Smells wonderful, darling."

"Oh, thank you, beloved," she says, turning her head for a proper kiss. "But you and your parents should be sitting in the dining room. I'll be there in a moment to serve tea. Everything should be finishing soon and I can let the magic take care of the rest."

Another quick kiss.

"And I have to freshen up a little. I don't know how much you like it when your wife looks like she's been working."

She gives a little wave to her in-laws.

"Go ahead to the dining room. I'll be there to serve tea momentarily."

Draco smiled after her, and then glanced back to his parents. They had already made a quick exit to the dining room. The thin lipped expressions indicating they wanted to get the visit over quickly. Though Narcissa did fuss over Draco's hair, and inquired about his stress and discomfort since his hair seems rather sparse. Lucius remarked that all on his side had a full head of hair well into their later years.

Better rescue Draco before the whining really starts.

Mia goes about serving the tea before sneaking over to her husband.

"You look very handsome tonight, darling," she says, giving him a kiss on his forehead before returning to the kitchen to fetch dinner.

"And don't peak at your present, Mister Draco Malfoy! I want to see your face when you open it!" she calls to him as she exits the room again.

Draco made a face at that while his parents civilly sipped their teas. Sometimes Narcissa would make some polite conversation, mostly about her son's health.

"He was doing wonderfully during our holiday in Lann with Mother and Uncle Rabastan," Mia adds as she comes in with plates of filet mignon.

The first one goes to Draco, of course, and the next to Lucius since he's the Malfoy patriarch. Mia goes back to the kitchen and returns with Narcissa's and finally her own, the apron finally off.

"We had even talked a little about getting a little house there for the family to take holidays. Draco always seems to do better in places where his water magic can flourish. You can practically feel it in Dragonlight."

Draco smiled, and dug into the fine cut of beef, meat juices dripping from the metal tines of his fork.

Lucius appeared puzzled at the water magic remark, and turned to his son.

"Water magic? What does she mean by that, my son?"

The younger man smirked, and excused himself from the table. Just enough to stand up for a moment, and concentrate. There were large drops of water forming and beading together on his arm before a dragon-like shape came together, liquid fangs baring at the guests.

Draco then dismissed the spell, and sagged a little, his left foot taking a shaky step back. It took much more effort to do it here back in his world. Probably because it was other world magic and he wasn't a native to Lunar after all.

His parents were speechless for a moment, before Narcissa got up to check on him.

Mia, on the other hand, is quite impressed.

"Draco, that was incredible! I don't think you've ever tried your wandless magic here."

She takes a starlight from her reticule and passes it to him on the table, sitting next to him.

"I'm so proud of you," she says, taking his hand.

Draco thanked her gratefully before taking the starlight from his wife. Started to feel better moments later, enough for his mother not to hover quite so much.

'Darling are you all right?' she asked.

"Well enough, Mother."

"I wasn't sure if it would work here," he then admitted to Mia.

"Nonsense. You've come a long way from magicking hinges off of the Magic Guild doors, and even that was impressive for its time, not really knowing wandless magic at all. Add that to your business at your potions shop and your hard work for the Magic Guild and Vane and it's no wonder why I made you a Premier."

She smiles brightly at him before turning to her in-laws.

"As you've already seen, magic from Vane is quite different than magic here. It's wandless and mostly element based, but it also plays a part in a wizard's or witch's physical being. We're able to become magically exhausted if we use particularly powerful magic or cast a lot of spells in a short amount of time. Normally this can be restored with sleeping or eating, but when there is an emergency with no time to wait, we take starlights to restore that magic power. There are also statues of Althena all over the world that are blessed to restore a person's magic energy and health."

Lucius remarked simply before returning to his meal, "At least you understand the value of bestowing such authority and position. Draco, I am glad you have found a worthy seat, and I should hope they are not as backwards as those fools on the Ministry these days."

Narcissa remained silent and focused on her meal once that she saw her son was healthy again.

Though she did comment, "There are still the other duty since you insist on it. What about our grandson?"

Draco cringed, and was trying to hide under his plate, whining, "Mother, not now! We still have time."

"It would be foolish of me to seek someone I trust for a position in aiding me without considering my husband first. As for being backwards, well, we don't pay heed to the ones who object for ridiculous reasons. There were a number of xenophobic council members who didn't want me to marry at all, much less an outsider to Vane like Draco. I've let them know several times just what I think of that attitude."

Mia Ausa, warm as she is, can be as cool as a Malfoy if she wants. There's a reason why she's fire and ice, even if ice hasn't shown up for a while.

But she's set to blushing and her teeth on her bottom lip for a moment.

"We've been talking about children, as have the tabloids. Hot Girl News is most eager to see about the Magic Guild having an heir when Draco and Nash aren't busy hexing them. We were thinking about maybe soon, unless you've changed your mind, Draco?"

His reaction has bored a little hole in her ship of a heart, but she needn't find the buckets to bail out the water to keep from sinking yet.

Draco was very pink in the face, and he hurriedly replied, "No, I haven't really." He then flailed and signaled to Mia, mouthing 'Can we talk about this later *without* my parents watching?!?'

The relief is enough to keep her quiet about that.

"But first, there is the matter of someone's birthday," she says in what she hopes is a smooth change of subject. "You've still got presents to open, cake to cut, and music to dance to."
