Meribia: Shopping

Dec 18, 2007 20:28

Mia usually isn't one for shopping trips, but some events were rapidly approaching that needed her attention in that area.

Christmas for one, the engagement party for another.

She already had some ideas. Mother, her friends at home, her friends at Milliways. Draco, however, was hard to shop for, as he hadn't listed anything he wanted.

"Have you ever tried one of the bunny outfits?" Ramus suggested, pointing to his workers.

"You can keep those ideas to yourself, Ramus," Mia said back, not wanting to admit out loud that she might consider such a thing for Draco. "I suppose I could get him a sword, but he already has one."

"How about a magic carpet?"

"He doesn't need one since he has a broom."

"Oh yeah..." Ramus muses. "You don't suppose he would be willing to supply my shop with brooms from his world, do you? He'd be a fair business partner, what with how successful his shop it."

"He might want to, but you'll have to see him about it."

"Yeah, yeah."

Mia looks a little disappointed before finally saying, "I don't know what to give him."

"Not that I'm complaining about your shopping, but why are you getting presents anyway?"

And Mia gives him the abbreviated version of Christmas, the shop owner's eyes glazing over the more she told.

"...and I want to give him something truly special," she finishes, Ramus actually drooling by the time she's done. "Ramus?"

"I'm sorry, I was having a moment," he explains. "So, how many people know about Christmas?"

"I've been telling people as I go along. Do you think it will spread?"

"I sure hope so."

Mia continued to look around, hoping for something to strike her, and in one of those forgotten bins of assorted jewelry, she happens upon something that takes her.

Not an item, but an idea. One that will take a lot of work in a little time and a lot of secrecy, but an idea nevertheless.

"I think I know what to give to Draco," she says.

"Really? What can I help you with?" Ramus eagerly asks.

"Information."

The shop keep looks a little disappointed, but then smiles when he says, "Words ain't cheap."

"Of course not, but I can get my fill of the ones I need at the library," she says, taking her leave of the shop.

Ramus looked a little puzzled, and slightly dimmed from the sale.

Well, at least she picked up some things before. Maybe that silver will provide some comfort.
