2013 Bookpost

Dec 29, 2013 15:06

Well, my ambitions for 2013 book posts collapsed in the wake of a busy January, work commitments, convention planning, general laziness, and embarrassment at admitting how far behind I'd fallen. (At least until now, in the latter case.) So, you get one big list of my major reading for the year.

At least I'm nice enough to cut-tag the list )

I'm impressed! That comes out to more than one book a week, which is way faster than I've been going.

OTOH, I have to read for a living....

For a long time I probably averaged 40-50 books a year. Several things have helped increase that total. First, regular business trips + cons out of driving range = lots of time in airports and on planes. Second, being regularly caught up enough on professional magazines to read other stuff on the subway to and from work (especially the books for $EMPLOYER's book club). Third, the rise of smartphones, e-books and reader apps, making it easy to sneak in a chapter (or short story) in the supermarket line, waiting for a movie or concert, or just about anywhere I have a few spare minutes. And fourth, the Hugo Voter Packets making it *much* easier to read through most (if not all) of the nominated works.

I'm very interested in the Locke and Key and I am pretty current on my Pratchett, he is one of my very favorites. :)

Locke and Key is interesting. A few moments of light and humor, and a whole lot of "Would you like some dark sauce for your dark? And perhaps a side order of blood?"

Sheryl is the more devoted Pratchett fan. I swipe her copies when I remember to.

Sounds like we should snag ourselves a copy of Going Postal.

See you and the Professora at GAFilk!
