Rolled a new song out at OVFF last weekend, written as a tribute to Marty Gear. I got a chance to sing it for Heather just before she and Ben left the con Saturday evening. She approved.
Costumer
By: Gary Ehrlich
Tune: “Troubadour” by Heather M. Dale & Ben Deschamps, © 2007
We all knew this humble fan
And all the stories in his heart
Who dressed in black across the land
And dreaming grew within his art
Oh how he regaled us
With vampire jokes and costumes made
Oh how he regaled us
He left us rich; the roles he played
We knew him from the guild he formed
Of thread and cloth, of seam and glue
We marveled at the Costume Cons
Our simple fandom built up to
Oh how he regaled us
With vampire jokes and costumes made
Oh how he regaled us
He left us rich; the roles he played
So raise your top hat, doff your cape
Raise your top hat, doff your cape (3x)
That costumer has left our hall
His Masquerades were still too few
But endings come to every fan
As we, his friends, begin anew
Where once he stood within our hall
And promised joy with every page
Where once he stood within our hall
New Masters walk upon the stage
New Masters walk upon the stage
So raise your top hat, doff your cape
Raise your top hat, doff your cape (3x)
