awesome times at the MATCH

two weeks ago, while on their way to work, two of my colleagues saw a lite-brite board attached to one of our pillars on the side of the school. the figure depicted looked suspiciously like spongebob giving the middle finger to all passers by. the board was promptly removed as it might seem innappropriate to hang on the side of a school (just a thought). we laughed a bit at the incident, but we got over it, cut the wires to the battery that lit up the board and left it in the development office as a souvenir.

fast forward to yesterday. i was sitting at my desk freaking out about the things that i had to accomplish and i get a phone call from a parent that goes a bit like this:

me: good afternoon MATCH School

Parent: THE T IS NOT WORKING!

me: okay.

Parent: They shut it down because of BOMBS.

me: really? that's interesting.

Parent: OMG. How are the children going to get home?

the conversation deviates from there, but apparently a bomb threat in four stations in Boston was cause for some serious alarm. i checked the MBTA website, it was down. i called the MBTA, they put me on hold. can i just say, paying a hell of a lot for the worst service in town is kinda awesome, but when they can't keep their website running during an emergency, i get heated.

the long short of it is that service was restored before the bell rang. an the devices? they were the same little lite brite that hung on our school. cartoon characters flipping people off. clever ad campaign, adult swim. poor execution. our lite brite was confiscated by 8 members of the Boston Police as evidence at 8pm yesterday.

also, a link to my school and the MATCH Corps program. if there is anything i am proud of, it's the job that these people do and the awesome kids in the video. check it out.
