Fannish firsts...
Warning...I'm old, like
Bizarra. ;)
1: First Fandom - Charlie’s Angels
I used to beg my mom to let me stay up to watch Charlie’s Angels. Obviously I was too young to get the whole “T&A” thing that Charlie’s Angels was famous for (they practically invented “jiggle television” even though the Angels were quite tame compared to today’s characters). I just thought it was really cool that these women were smart and capable and always got the bad guys.
2: First Favorite Character - Kelly Garrett, Charlie’s Angels
I had such a girl crush on Jaclyn Smith. She was so beautiful and Kelly was such a nice, kind person. They used to sell Charlie’s Angels trading cards, and I had a little collection. Kelly’s cards were my faves.
3: First OTP - Jim Rockford and Beth Davenport, The Rockford Files
Apparently Jim and his attorney, Beth, had a little something together in their past (pre-show). They often referred to it, such as the time Beth hid something from Jim by putting it down the front of her blouse. Jim smiled and said if she thought that would stop him, she has an awfully short memory. They both traded favors (not really favors…her clients could never pay for his investigative services, so Beth would bat her eyelashes and make Jim feel guilty until he agreed to help. Jim, on the other hand, never had the money to pay Beth for her legal services). I just enjoyed the way they flirted with each other while keeping their distance due to what was probably a painful breakup. Kind of like real life.
4: First Fannish Crush -
This could be just about anyone…Pete from The Mod Squad, Johnny Gage and Kelly Brackett from Emergency, Jim Street and Dominic Luca from SWAT, Vinnie Barbarino from Welcome Back, Kotter…oy vey! So many fluffy 70s haircuts, so little time. Sometimes I make my daughter watch these shows on cable or Netflix just to hear her laugh at the goofy guys I thought were cute way back in the day.
5: First Fandom that Broke Your Heart -
I have no idea, so I’m going to use a recent fandom…Law & Order: Criminal Intent. It broke my heart when the powers that be ruined the dynamic between the show leads, Alex Eames and Bobby Goren. They gave Bobby every stereotypical character burden they could and then ruined the relationship he had with his partner, Eames.
