Detective Alex Eames (badge #3798) from Law & Order: Criminal Intent[Bio]Alex Eames, mid-40s, is the senior partner working with Det. Robert Goren in the Major Case Squad, NYPD. Previously she worked in the Vice Squad for five years. She is a smart, competent police officer. At first she did not appreciate Goren’s unconventional manner of police work and requested a new partner. However, Eames grew to understand Goren, and they’ve been an extremely effective duo ever since.
Her father, Johnny Eames, was a cop in the 91st precinct. He was caught “double dipping” after retirement (working another city job while collecting his police pension). While he generally is known as a good cop, there is a certain amount of disgrace surrounding Eames’ father, and sometimes Alex is tainted by it. Mr. Eames spends his time smoking, drinking, and nursing old grudges. Eames tries to take care of him. Her mother had a stroke some time ago and it is presumed that she is no longer living.
Eames is a widow. Her late husband, Joe Dutton, was a police officer killed on the job several years ago. He wasn’t very romantic - for one anniversary he gave Alex a Taser. The man originally convicted in Joe’s murder was innocent. Nine years later Eames and Goren reopened the case and found the real killer.
Alex doesn’t have any children of her own, but she did act as a surrogate mother for her sister. She gave birth to a boy.
Coffee and sugar keep Eames going. She has been seen eating Skittles on a few occasions.
Eames was kidnapped and tortured by Jo Gage, the daughter of Goren’s old profiling mentor Declan Gage. She escaped, and they were able to bring Jo to justice. At the time Eames lived in Queens at 27 Beachcrest, Rockaway, NY. She drove a 1999 white Honda, which Jo used to hide another victim’s body. Jo also killed Eames’ pet bird Paulie.
After a short time in therapy, Eames returned to work. Her partnership with Goren was strained and Eames obviously was under immense stress. Goren went through several personal tragedies of his own, and their partnership almost didn’t survive.
Eames took the captain’s exam and passed. She was offered the Major Case command after their captain was killed, but it was contingent on her firing Goren. Eames refused. Her partnership with Goren weathered the storms and they continue doing what they do best: catching the bad guys.

Saving Goren and Eames Binder Project - When Law & Order: Criminal Intent was cancelled by NBC, a group of fans banded together to "save Goren and Eames." They also collected items from fans and created binders for each of the stars as a keepsake. This is a slideshow of some of the items created for the binders, and here is Ms. Erbe's very touching thank you note.
