House, finally. I hope.
It looks like the house will actually close on the 28th. After the insurance company declined to cover us, our agent called her attorney to see what options we had. He said we didn’t have any; we were under contract and couldn’t back out just because we couldn’t get our preferred insurer. He also said in his opinion, the insurance company was being excessively cautious and we wouldn’t have any problem finding someone else but if we did, then it would be another matter. Ok, somewhat reassured I called an agent who handles multiple companies. She tried 5 companies and when she said Quest pipe they all declined. Well, now it’s another matter. After much angst and handwringing, it was finally resolved that the sellers would pay half to have the pipe replaced and we would pay half. It was replaced on Tuesday; the insurance agent got the paperwork certifying it today and just called to tell me we were good to go. If nothing else comes out of left field, next Friday we’ll have a home of our own (well, mostly it’ll belong to the bank but still)!
