U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers have arrested a British Columbia man after 27 pounds of Ecstasy were found in the gas tank of his minivan. They say the man told them he was driving to Seattle to buy healing crystals.
Chief Tom Schreiber identified the man as 69-year-old Amar Dutt of Surrey, B.C.
A Border Patrol drug-sniffing dog detected the drugs. Schreiber says officers removed several vacuum-sealed bags containing more than 48,000 Ecstasy tablets with a street value of about $500,000.
Since the Friday evening arrest, the man has been transferred to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
