A death in the family

Anyways, she was backing into her usual parking spot and she didn't see Jessie through her side or rear view mirrors and she ran over Jessie's foot.  Jessie didn't make a sound at all and Mom only knew because she felt her tire go over something when she was backing up.  I looked out the window and the the way that Mom could lift up her foot, she shouldn't have been able to do that.

So Mom and Dad took Jessie to the vet and then I went to work and told pretty much everyone that I work with what happened.  Mom and Theresa got me from work and they told me the news: Her leg is broken and the nerves were very damaged which would explain why she didn't make a sound when her foot was ran over.  There are probably shattered pieces of bone in there that can cut off the circulation.  If they did not do surgery there is a 10% chance that her leg would heal properly.  Even if she did have the surgery, which would be about $1500-2000, there is no guarantee that her leg would be 100%.  Also, since has taken such a long time for her other back leg to heal from that infection, there's no telling how long it would take for the broken leg to heal.  She's also 11.5 years old, so if she was a younger dog than it might have been better to do the surgery.

The vet called this morning and said that her condition had gotten worse and he said that is he were in my parent's position he would put her to sleep.  My Dad was throwing around the idea of cremation, but Mom and I went to see her one last time and have decided to bury her like we did with the other dogs.

So this had been an emotional 2 days.  She will be very dearly missed.  She was such a wonderful dog.  I will be losing my sleeping on the couch buddy, she won't be there to jump on my bed in the morning and just fall asleep with me, she won't be sunbathing in the not-so-blue-room, we won't hear her scratching on the  door when she wants to come inside (I think that will be one fo the hardest things), and she won't be  greeting anybody when they're coming down the driveway.
