The local anesthetic was superfluous, I think, and the circulation in my feet is good enough that the needle punctures from the local anesthetic bled freely. Pneumatic tourniquet cuff at the ankle for the amputation. I didn't watch until the podiatrist was sewing up the end of the stump. The stump and foot looked quite remarkably healthy. Then he bandaged them up and I haven't seen my newly abbreviated toe since then.
I wept a bit the night before. The only pain was from the needles for the anesthetic: mostly the nerves in my feet are shot.
That's that. A bit of a memento mori and a reminder to be more prudent about my extremities, and that's about it. With luck it won't lead to that endless pruning back that diabetics with poor circulation have to face.
