Yesterday was a very satisfying day.  Here is why....

I have a fetish for clean carpets.  Must be due to the idea of having "dust mites" in the carpets that drive me nuts and has me vacuuming the house every alternate day.  Yesterday was one such frenzied day.  I started vacuuming the place and noticed that the machine was machine a noise much louder than it did before two days and also was spewing the dust from the sides.  I could not see anything being collected in the canister (i have a bagless vacuum), but the little stuff that had collected inside was spinning around.  I decided to check on to see what was wrong.  Long ago when i had a similar trouble, i discovered that the belt was broken and i went and got a new one and fixed it myself.  Now i thought, it was the same problem occuring again.

Once i opened the cover at the bottom, i just had to keep going and opening the vacuum one part at a time, until i spotted where the problem was.  When i did find the problem, i realised that the vacuum was in total dismantled - one could not say it was a vacuum cleaner.  I started getting worried if i could fit the machine back together.  Luckily, i had placed the nuts and bolts and other pieces, the way it is placed in the cleaner.  The problem with the machine was a clogged up dust pipe.  Since this was a wet/dry vacuum, i had used it to suck water that had overflowed fro my kitchen sink a couple of days ago.  Everytime i vacuumed, the moisture in the pipe collected dust on it until it was totally clogged (like the artery they show in any cholestrol control pill ad).

I cleaned up the stuff and finally managed to put the pieces back together.  Pretty soon, i had a clean, unclogged, working vacuum cleaner that helped me clean the mess i had made on the carpet.  Felt pretty good.  This is by far easier than having to think what the menu for our daily meals should be :)

Here are a few shots of what a mess i made.

This could be considered as either the before or the after picture - but i had taken this shot after i had put it back together.  I know you would believe me.

That was the indoor bit, now for the outdoors.  For the first time, since i started driving here, i parallel parked in a downtown last evening.  I did not get it right the first time.  The car was only 3/4th inside the neat line of cars that the other drivers had managed to make.  Before the thought of finding another parking space triggered, i decided to try for one more time.  Voila!  I did it and it was perfect.
