Save the Schools Initiatives go down in flames

all except for the measure that says the politicians can't give themselves raises. Anyone expecting any other outcome?

Measure D in Mount Diablo Unified School District (the $99.00 parcel tax) failed. Seems that people who are already in rough financial condition are not willing to give more money to the people who are poorly managing the school finances and screwed up the money they already had. Surprise!

On the local front: Measure D promised to attract and retain excellent teachers. Well, in order to do that, they would have to over ride the union. We have some of the finest young teachers around, but because of the seniority issue, the finest teachers with less seniority are being pink slipped. Example: my partner has done an incredible, super human job with our program since he arrived three years ago from Texas. Our bands have gone from mediocre to All State Level Unanimously Superior. Our program is the envy of the district. Parents transferred their children to this school for this music program.

BUT the Seniority Dragon has gotten rid of him and will be moving in an Elementary music teacher who has never, in 20 years, stood before a 50 piece band or orchestra, 7 times a day, and maintained discipline at the Middle School level. I weep for the future.
