//Tess said he would forget everything, and then we saw his memories getting erased, starting from the moment he showed up in the Pilot, until the Fortress collapse at the end of season 7. So honestly, I think it's pretty clear that he forgot everything from the Pilot in season 1, to his last final appearance at the end of season 7.//
I took it that the montage was more a reel of what memories were at risk - but that they were actually erased? And that too permenantly? I'm not so sure we can be certain of. Don't get me wrong, I think even the mere suggestion of a mindwipe was a horrible idea, let alone trying to execute it. And I completely see why you and others believing that there was indeed a mindwipe, and I concede I'm probably wrong - but. And there's always a but. I can't help but think the show might have wanted to leave an air of ambiguity out there.
//And that, to me, just makes the entire Lex Luthor saga on the show mostly pointless.//
I can see what you're saying. But for me, it can never be so, because so many, too many, moments from those 7 years are too glorious and rich to ever be deemed pointless. And again, since the Clex in the finale disappointed you so much, I can totally see where you're coming from. But since it fared better with me, I suppose that puts me in a better place, overall, with Clex. Also, in my case. because Tess' character engaged me so much, that's probably another reason the Luthors storyline worked well for me, for the most part, this season. That, and the disturbing yet compelling dysfunctionality of their dynamic which I thought was done well even in this season.
//The idea that Clark should just focus on being a hero and have no real persona life//
I hate that. Ugh. It's so disrespectful towards Clark' character, and Lois' too.
//Needless to say, I have always enjoyed your reviews of the show over the years and was happy to read a nice positive take on things.//
Thankyou. :-) It means a lot that you enjoyed them.
