I wasn't overly enamoured with the episode either, but for me the comedic moments made up for a lo of the wtf-ery. From the great Clois scenes (because I loved all of them) to the two hilarious Chlark scenes (shower and sex-with-humans talk), loved the "small-talk" between Clark and Oliver, and then the set as he final Clois scene.

And then the Tess/Zod stuff was actually a pleasant surprise strictly for the way their scenes were all about Clark. I don't know what it says about Tess that Clark has manhandled/almost killed her on more than one occassion and she still defends him. I guess part of it goes to her childhood, but it's kind of disturbing in a really interesting way. I thought for sure after Persuasion that she wouldn't be on his side anymore, but I guess maybe she figured out he was "on something". Weird but intriguing, at least to me.

You're definitely right with the 'wierd, but intriguing' observation. That's Tess in a nutshell, eh? Heh. CF just continues to rock it out every eps she's in and I'm so grateful for her presence on the show.

I like your reading of Tess' reactions. Makes sense to me.

This, pretty much. I also think Tess was made aware that Clark "wasn't himself", even if we didn't get indication of that onscreen. But really, the bottom line is that Tess still thinks Clark is what's best for the world and not only that, I think she's very much aware of how bad a person she is, so him getting angry at her (as he did in Kandor as well) isn't to be unexpected.

I've wondered this too, and I think you may be right. This, coupled with her own self-awareness - and Tess' position wrt Clark becomes a lot clearer. Which, I'm pleasantly surprised about, because more often than not this season, I was kinda confused with her motivations, etc.
