//Well, I'm going to start off by saying that spoilers often turn out to be misleading, or we misinterpret them and anticipate things that never come to pass, so even though I read them all, for the most part I try to reserve judgment until I see the episodes.//
That's a very wise policy. I wish I could say I always followed that, but evidently I don't, heh.
Wrt Jor-El, as I was commenting to shardsofblu, he has had his moments. But they've been too far and few between. Overall he's come across to me as a bit of a bastard really. And I'm not sure how we're supposed to remotely even buy the concept of training at this point, let alone root for it. SV!Clark is so beyond that.
//Because I'm hoping this isn't about Clark's love life, but his connection to humanity, because Lois is his touchstone. Everyone else close to him is either gone, or has betrayed him. I don't want to see Clark come back to himself because of his out-of-nowhere love for this one woman, but I don't have a problem with Lois reminding him what it is he loves about the human race: our spirit, and hope, and courage, even in the face of impossible odds.//
Yes, this would work for me. And would make sense, given last seasons context where Lois was one of the only consistent avenues of support for Clark. But my spec is hardly ever correct, so I'm not so sure this is the route the show will take, heh. I expect more of a heavy handed anvil coming our way instead.
My problem with the Chlark thing has never been Clark coming off looking the bad guy - to me. But I have more than often gotten the impression the show itself takes sides. And it ain't Clark'.
I can absolutely imagine why the Clois stuff got such a great response. Not only did the footage seem exciting but S8 was a very good year for them. Hell, two of my own favorite aspects about last season were Lois and Clark/Lois. But I think in concentrating solely on the 'ship, and neglecting individual character journies? Is a disservice both to the characters and the story. I'll be honest, while I don't have a problem with most of the Clois spoilers. But there are certain ones from 'Roulette' and 'Crossfire' that have me worried. And I don't like that. This is a couple I want to root for. So I hope the writers make it easy for me.
//but there's a lot to be said for viewing the episodes without the baggage of speculation and the dread that can often bring.//

Good point. And I'll admit to a bit of stubbornness about what the show says. In Eternal, for example, I still say the whole Doomsday-is-Sageeth idea was just Tess's delusion. And I still maintain Lionel was evil to the end. So maybe I'm ignoring what the show was trying to say about Clark wrt to Chloe at the end of S8, because I was cheering when he walked out on her.
But there are certain ones from 'Roulette' and 'Crossfire' that have me worried.
I keep hearing this, and to be honest, I'm not up on these. I never try to read the sides myself (all those blacked-out lines give me a headache), and I think the K-Site spoilers for these episodes were updated right around the time my work got extra crazy. I'll have to go find out what everyone is talking about.
I'd definitely suggest you check out these spoilers yourself though and base your judgment on that. Rather than going by what I or anyone else might be saying. Who knows, you might not even find them troublesome. I always end up doing this inevitably in my case anyways, because I'm in my own little bubble half the time as it is, heh. For instance I wasn't aware others had taken reservation with these spoilers while I was catching up with them. It's only when I went to a friends lj that I discovered it was the case.
I still maintain most of the Clark/Lois spoilers - from 'Rabid', 'Echo', 'Idol', all sound good. 'Roulette' and 'Crossfire' come across as wobbly to me, for several reasons, but even then, perhaps on execution things will play out differently. Atleast I hope so.
Well, I just read the K-Site spoilers, and I think I must be missing something. The only Clois spoiler for Roulette is that Lois learns a secret Clark is keeping about Oliver? There must be something more than that if people are upset, right?
The Crossfire spoilers don't set off any alarm bells either. Is it the whole premise of the TV show? Or the stuff about Lois bringing up Infamous and Clark making a drunk joke? That reminds me of the cracks they made to each other in Identity, which didn't bother me. I don't take the snarky stuff seriously, I just see it as what they do because they both have protective walls up. IDK, I guess it depends on where their relationship is at that point. Hot naked sex in the premiere (albeit in a flash forward dream sequence), and we're back to snarky banter in episode 7? I don't know what to think!
Maybe it's a good thing work is keeping me so busy right now. :)
I checked out the KSite spoilers for these first (that's how I came to know of them) and then I googled the sides.
As per KSite, in 'Roulette', Lois discovers Clark' keeping a secret from her about Oliver. When I checked out the sides, part of their conversation can be made out quite easily which seems to indicate Lois walking away from Clark upon hearing he was keeping a secret from her and Clark reaching out for her and apologizing. Primarily what bugs me about this, (aside from the fact that Clark is yet again apologizing) is that I hope there isn't some kind of sense of entitlement from Lois and I hope she respects that if Clark was keeping a secret, there must be a reason. And plus, I think it's beyond lame and contrived for Clark and Lois to even remotely fall out over Oliver.
As far as 'Crossfire' is concerned, firstly I think I'm not too keen on the TV dhow idea at all. For me, Clark and Lois=The DP. I get that Lois is ambitious but I hope there's a legitimate reason given for why all of a sudden she's so interested in this job. Secondly, I'm sort of irritated by the fact that Lois brings up the aborted date from 'Infamous.' She handled it so maturely in 'Infamous' and later 'Hex' that my respect for her increased ten fold. I just hope if she is indeed referring to that date, it stops after this, because otherwise it just makes her look petty. Also, overall, I'm not liking the tone where it seems that Clark is totally reluctant to do the show and is only doing it for Lois. I don't know, OTOH, it's sweet and shows how much he cares for her, but OTOH, if they're really going down this TV show route, perhaps have Clark at least somewhat embrace it? Just a little.
So, in a nutshell, I'd say these are my problems with the spoilers. But again, I'm willing to concede that things may play out very differently on screen. I hope they do in fact, because I'm really liking what we have for 'Rabid', 'Echo' and 'Idol.'
I forgot to add that yes, the drunk joke bothered me too. Lois has been drunk, what, all of two, maybe three times her entire run on this series? I just think it's so sanctimonious for the show to be implying that ::that:: qualifies Lois to become the butt of drunk jokes. God knows I ought to be lobbed with drunk jokes then if this is the criteria.
I know what you mean, but I actually see it more as Clark's way of reminding her of the intimacy they shared when he took her home with him after Chloe's engagement party. That's what "drunk Lois" always makes me think of. Maybe I'm reading way too much into it, though. I certainly hope it's not mean spirited.
Thanks for filling me in. I understand all of your concerns. It's all going to come down to context for me, I guess. I'd feel a lot better if the Crossfire plot line were about an undercover story for the DP, but it doesn't sound like that. Are they not reporters anymore? I don't get it. And the secret thing depends on what it is, and how it affects Lois. One of the things I like best about Lois is the way she doesn't pry and demand more from Clark than what he's willing to give. I hope they're not changing that! *sigh*
That's a very wise policy. I wish I could say I always followed that, but evidently I don't, heh.

This is exactly it.
