yesterday i went to the fiesta flambeau parade. it was three hours long and there were about half a million people watching. anyways, a majority black high school marching band from dallas was in the parade, and my friend's father commented, saying "don't you wish you were black sometimes?" i was highly offended. by his question. and my friend's response, "duh, dad." the situation was awkward and i kept silent for a few minutes, but i think my friend sensed my awkwardness and i felt comfortable asking her if she found it offensive. she simply said, "no" and changed the subject. then i text messaged an old yruu friend, told her what happened and asked if she would have been offended. she said something to the effect of, "no, maybe if i were two years younger, but this is the real world and it's not so bad."
i just don't know how to feel, about the situation and responses to it. it really bugged me. so, offensive or not?
