I finally found a trench coat like the one I used to have. The brand is different, of course, but the length, color, and pocket placement make it a near perfect match. It was even on sale, probably because it's not quite the season for it yet ( Read more... )

I'm not busy if you want to do something. And if I can get you to come to the club with me afterward. I know: conditions, conditions. It's a rough... life.

You're playing right into my hands, you know.

Speaking of playing, there's a new song I've heard a lot about. A saxophone piece. I think it's called "I Suck at Pool." Is there any chance you'd have something like that on your set list?

No, I've replaced it with a song called "I'm Better Than You Think at Pool and I Only Let You Win because it was More Fun That Way." Although that title's so long I just call it "I Suck at Pool" instead. It keeps things simpler.

Eager to hear your song now that it's finished?

Oh, really. Is it based on a true story?

We could always have a rematch. I'm sure you wouldn't lose... quite so badly the second time.

You know I'd like to hear it.

I'll play it for you. And then you can make your own determination on whether it's based on a true story or... the storyteller is full of shit.

Either way, I'll get to see you on Saturday, so it's a good thing no matter what.

When you put it that way, you sound so easy to please.

There's a restaurant I've never been to on the other side of the city, and I can't think of anyone here I'd rather take along than the composer of what's bound to be such a hit.

I could be crankier if you wanted.

...no, scratch that, I can't.

What kind of restaurant? Not that it matters. I'll go with you anyway, and I can just feel all those poor men back in Blue Crow reeling in jealousy over us now.

I'm doing everything I can to keep giving you a reputation.

It's eclectic. Their menu changes every few weeks, and the restaurant itself is about the size of a shoebox so they only take so many people per night. I guess I haven't gotten too rusty at gathering information; I got the man I talked with to tell me they have three open spots tomorrow night. I'll give him a call and tell him we'll be taking two of those.

Eclectic and mysterious: it sounds perfect. I hope you don't mind if we stop by Lux on the way so I can drop off my sax and the other things I need for work. I'll show you the secret back room for musicians and very special friends only. Then we can take our time and relax over dinner... and over my reputation.

I could do with a scandal or two; it's good for business.

I can hardly pass up a chance like that.

The restaurant serves dinner at seven, so we should have plenty of time for working on your reputation before you're on.

Okay. I'll stop by and get you around... six or a little after. Take a nice leisurely stroll over to the club, ruin a few reputations along the way. It'll be fun.
