Various Blackwood Oneshots

Feb 04, 2010 06:56

This entry is to post a few of the Blackwood Oneshots that I have written previously.  The one's that I'm sharing are my all time favorites of the ones I have written, and as always the opinion of others would be greatly appreciated so I can continue to write interesting things.
Once again, all of these characters, places, and situations were thought up by me and I will be very put out at anyone who dares try to steal them.  That said, do enjoy.
Title(s): Various
Summary: All works revolve around two or three characters, Luca, Drystan, and Eden, Luca's pet peacock.  Luca's twin sister Petra may also make an appearance in some works, but is a minor character.  Various adventures and problems ensue.  In addition, all scenes, though they may not seem to be, are connected and will someday form an entire story.  Don't worry about trying to find the connections now, as it may be a tad confusing.  Things make sense in my head...you will just have to wait and see.

“This is all your fault.” Drystan accused, ducking a sword aimed at his head. Luca’s sword flew over him as he crouched, stabbing into his assailant’s shoulder.

“My fault?! Whose idea was it to rob the royal storehouses?” Luca jerked sideways to avoid an attack from behind, and knocked Drystan into the wall as he tried to stand. “And remind me again who said that we shouldn’t go?”

Drystan leapt into the air and kicked a dagger from his new opponent’s hand. “But who came along anyway?” He grunted. “And who just had to stop and stare at the shiny sword?”

“Which handles like a dream.” Luca retorted, quite aggravated by his mockery. As if to prove her point, she twisted effortlessly around and slew Drystan’s opponent with one deft stroke. Drystan growled in annoyance, but circled around her and deflected the sword aimed at her back.

“Pay attention to the fight.” He said at last, thus ending their argument.

And so the dance of blades continued.

Through the pounding rain and thunder, Luca could hear Eden squawking from the stables. It was late and dark, but even on stormy nights such as this, Eden would already be sleeping soundly.

The squawking grew louder, waking Drystan where he’d been dozing on the carpet by the fire. He was on his feet in seconds, glancing worriedly at Luca. A cold chill crawled up Luca’s spine. Something was terribly wrong.

Both of them were at the door before the maid who was bringing them tea could blink her pretty little eyes. Luca dashed out into the rain at once, running to the stables, but Drystan had the presence of mind to grab a sword before he followed after her. The thunder clapped angrily overhead. “You’ll need to get her out of the house,” his voice suddenly echoed in his mind, and then he knew. His pace slowed and he let Luca enter the stables alone.

He stood out in the pounding rain and waited. Shortly he heard the sounds of a fight. Luca called out for him, but he did not respond. Eden’s frenzied cry rose over the thunder and then…

All was silent.

A troop of royal guards exited the stables with Luca-bound at the hands-in tow. Her lip was swollen and her nose dripped blood. Drystan caught the look in her eyes. She bowed to him coldly, and as she rose she pulled out of the soldiers’ grips just long enough to plant a kiss on Drystan’s lips.

It was cold and emotionless, but it said everything.

Neither Luca nor Drystan spoke when the guards pulled Luca away. Then they gagged her mouth so she could not speak had she wanted to, and loaded her into the prison carriage.

As they took her away towards the impenetrable city walls, Eden let out a long, mournful cry from within the stables.

Drystan sank to his knees on the wet ground and watched her go. He did not weep, though every fiber of his being was telling him to.

Overhead, the storm raged on and the rain fell like the tears he should have been crying.
