PICS! NYC

Feb 04, 2010 19:31

Back at the end of Dec (from 28 Dec to 3 Jan)
queenof1000days came to visit. And much to her parents' hapiness, survived her trip alone to the Big Apple to stay with strangers! During that time there was lots of tourist fun!

30 Dec we hit Bryant Park, The Strand, South Street Seaport, and St Paul's Chapel. Then we went to Dino BBQ.
New Years Eve (31 Dec) we did a very, very snowy Lady Liberty, Ellis Island and Wall Street before Queen and I headed uptown to the NYC Ballet and the Nutcracker.
2 Jan we went into the City and did the Tim Burton Exhibit at MOMA, Rockefeller Center, Times Square and random street scenes with the Waldorf Astoria building.

I finally uploaded some pics! And this time instead of uploading a million pics, I actually picked and chose pics. So here are some and the albums.

This is one of my fav pics... because I love the mophead tug. And it's always there.

We went searching for the Donut Shop featured on Food Network... and found this sign while eating the awesome donuts! So it begs the question... what other lifeforms are here in NYC?!

While we were down in lower Manhattan... we visited St Paul's Chapel, the church right next to World Trade Center that was spared all but ash on 9/11 and has now become a memorial. I've never been inside before, although I have been to WTC numerous times since Jan 02. It's beautiful because it's very old and very cool in it's own right. I love old cemeteries and can spend a lifetime just looking at the old stones.

This was engraved in the back of a memorial to someone buried in the cemetery... and I believe nothing is more perfect for this resting place... or any resting place.

From NYC St Paul's Chapel

Inside are many things left over time since 9/11...the memorial to what St Paul's Chapel was that day and for a long time after... a retreat, a place to take a minute and escape the horror that greeted the rescue workers every second of everyday outside that sanctuary.

In the album, the next photo is the explanation of these piece chains.

This photo is a coat, a FF's coat draped over a pew, to symbolize what it was like inside right after 9/11... many rescue workers came and went, draping clothes to rest out of gear. I loved this because with the flash, you can see that it's still reflective.

I believe this Lady needs no introduction...

I love this pic of some of the signs at Ellis Island...

This is one of the coolest things to me at Ellis Island... It's the US Flag viewed one way, and pictures of many people who passed through Ellis Island as immigrants.
