DG is lost in thought, staring into the fire, when Cain calls her name, bringing her back to the present. She looks around and sees everyone but her and Cain have gone.
"You got lost in your thoughts, kiddo, and the others were tired." Cain answers the question he easily reads in her eyes.
"I'm sorry. You should have said something."
"Raw thought it best we left you to your thoughts."
DG smiles at his reference to the Viewer. She loves how Raw can read her so well, sometimes, anyway. Other times she wishes he isn't as good at seeing into her heart.
"You wanna talk about anything?"
DG smiles softly up at him. "On the Other Side, the saying is 'Penny for your thoughts.' But, not really. I guess I just got lost in thinking about what life would be like right now if I was still in the Other Side." She'd been telling them all about television and different kinds of shows earlier.
All her thoughts about television spark a memory of an episode of a favorite tv show and she speaks without giving much thought to what she is saying. "There was this TV show I loved that always used quotes from famous people." She stops because she doesn't think she can explain the tv show or even the origins of the quote. She knows she'd be rambling on and he wouldn't understand her explanation. None of that is important bit she needs to tell him. "Anyway, the quote is 'The Noir hero is a knight in blood caked armour. He's dirty; and he does his best to deny he's a hero the whole time.' It describes you, Cain. It fits you. And I wanted you to know that." She bites her tongue, stopping herself from saying anything more. She said more than she had meant to already.
"DG, I'm not…"
"Nope. No correcting the Princess, remember?" She smiles then, breaking the heated tension that had descended. She's dead serious about the quote - it’s quintessentially Cain and just how she sees him. But she's not willing to risk losing him by making him so uncomfortable; she knows his feelings on being called a hero.
She watches his eyes, and she can see he wants to deny her words, but he stops. She wonders why he didn't say whatever it is he was originally planning to, but lets it go. This way she can let herself think its because he sees the seriousness and honesty in her eyes and kinda likes knowing she thinks he's a hero. She's told him before that she thinks his actions heroic, but never as straight forward as what she's just said.
She smiles at him, he nods and she watches him walk out of her room. It's time to sleep.
