I don't find it so. I find it troubling. That people can care so deeply for one another, make declarations to that effect, and then re-negotiate.

'Falling' in love describes the lack of control involved.

I find it a comforting antithesis to popular American portrayals of the omnipresent 'happy ending'.

I would amend that it describes the lack of control one typically bothers to exert, so that they might later plead innocence of responsibility.

Possibly. But I despair that nothing like love can truly exist without grudges, mis-directed passion and malevolence.
