Okay, so that's the last time I ever try to type the lyrics of a David Bowie song, but you get the picture.
Lots of things have gone on since my last entry around....October? (Thanks to Peter for pointing that one out.) Everything has gone really well in my life, with the exception of a few hiccups (or hiccoughs?) along the way. I figured in these few moments of boredom and a little bit of interest that I would actually write a little bit of what's been going on.
Vicki and Kara both got their licenses last week, so that rocks. I'm really hoping that with this new mobility we can all get together more often. With one, two, and finally three of our five close friends getting their licenses, it made traveling weird when we could only drive "legally" with one, who just happens to be the one with a major car accident under his belt. Ah well. Hopefully this will improve the whole situation and we can have some more fab 5 adventures.....without the redecorating.
Exams went really well. While being grounded for the first and probably last time in my life, I got some serious and solitary studying in, however procrastinated it was, and ended up with very nice grades. So that's cool or whatever. Everyone was dancing around, all happy that first semester was over and the "I never have to take any more Spanish!" and other priceless quotes were being flung around the hallways. Unfortunately, I couldn't really share in the happiness. Let me explain...
Here is my schedule from last semester...
AP American
Hemingway/Faulkner/Steinbeck (Mrs. Crescenzi)
Chorus/Desktop Publishing (as you all know, my favorite class)
AP Calc
Here is my very different and easier scedule of my second semester...
Lit of Dissent (Mrs. Crescenzi)
French 5
Chorus/Gym
AP American/AP Calc
So...there you have it. It's not much of a change, and certainly nothing easier like switching from Precalc to Decorative Arts or something. I do admit that Lit of Dissent seems like it will be a better, or at least more interesting class that HFS, and French 5 kicks ass (woot to Abbey, Tracy, Holly, Marco, Alice, and Michele as my best french buddies, despite the fact that Michele is a year late to French 4, we still love her ;-) ) I'm really hoping that we can sneak some food in or at least have an out-of-school partay chez Alice like last year. I do miss Hannah and Sam and Donna especially from our exclusive French 4 class of last year, but I guess life goes on. *sigh* Gym is also debatable as I would much rather be taking Theater 1 or 2...or anything besides gym. I've already had this discussion with a few people, but I really do not see the point in making gym mandatory after sophomore year. The entire argument that gym badmitton every other day is going to keep me physically fit? yeah, that would be bogus. More power to you if you want to double or triple up on your gym requirements just for kicks, but personally I'd opt out.
Let's see....what else? I guess you could say that I'm not exactly part of a "couple" anymore. Sean and I have gone our separate ways after over a year, but I'm certainly not looking for sympathy (or nasty) postings on here. It's just something that happened, and he and I are still friends and hopefully that can survive. Yeah, stuff sucks sometimes but I think we both have to focus on just having fun and breathing out and enjoying the rest of the year, definitely without the pressures and random stresses of a relationship, or at least that one. From here on, whatever happens happens. Life goes on.
"Guys and Dolls" started up and I am proud to be a member of the Mission Band. I'd prefer you not call me "Agatha," as my character name is less than alluring, but I will be glad to inform you of various prayer meetings and other Save-A-Soul Mission events (which you know, this religion thing is so me!). Everyone can complain about the casting all they want, but everyone was cast because Mr. Mac and Mr. Nan saw something in them that convinced them of the casting, and that's that. I understand that there are a lot of touchy spots for seniors especially, but if you're a junior like me or especially a sophomore or freshmen, please don't despair, or worse, insult and alienate the cast members with bigger roles. I don't mean to preach, however appropriate it might seem as a..what..."mission doll?"....but come on guys. I know a lot of things can and have been said, but if you're in this for the right reasons, you can see that you'll have other opportunities to shine in the Workshop, some of us have already in the past, and it's definitely not the end of the world. I think that everyone should strive to do the best they absolutely can onstage, and offstage, but getting upset about it isn't going to change anything and can oftentimes make things worse and hurt people. The show will be fun no matter what, as long as you allow yourself to HAVE fun! I won't go into all the "working together" and "koombayah" crap (however you spell it) but I hope if you have been thinking about this stuff that you understand what I'm saying and just let yourself have a good time, whether you're a Hotbox dancer, a walkon character with no lines, or a member of the very awesome Mission Band. The show will be great :-) And if you're not IN the show, you should definitely come see it this April. Of course I have no idea offhand when it is...but it's in April, so I'll update at least once before then an advertise a bit.
Anyway, with a full week ahead of me (granted there are no more 3 foot snow drifts up my driveway) I should probably be heading to bed. Some other cooler things have happened in the past few weeks (Kate's kickass 16th birthday party! and my random but cool psychic reading by my mom's hairdresser....) so I'll have to find time to type that stuff out, but that's for another day. If you're still reading this, I don't know whether to commend you or apologize, but pretend I did both right now and I'll write again soon.
Love,
Molly
