Commuting out of town
Through oceans southward bound
Currents carry away
Undertows of dismay
I saw you out there
This water we both share
Waves which crash and part
Mend this fast-eroding heart
Surge through me and my mind
Search and relinquish our lives
I listen to the our radio
But the static never changes tones
Surge to the point of no return
To search and find out if you've learned
Traversing back to town
Through roads of ocean sounds
The lines all fade to grey
Undoes our one last thread of grace
Where I thought you once were
The asphault tears and blurs
These waves which distort and rise
Burn these slowly-aging eyes
Surge from me and my mind
Recover all this lost time
I listen to the ocean tides
Where the waves drown out our foolish pride
And surge back to the life I've rearranged
To search and find out, that nothing's changed
this song comes from the ideals that many uphold as vacation being a therapeutic treatment for their lives, but its really more of a distraction with the same problems waiting for them back home, and the realization that there is no magic solution to digging yourself out of your problems, other than to grab a shovel, going to the beach and building a castle out of sand won't guard you from the onslaught from waves of reality---SW
