Here's part of a brainwave I rode in on late last nite. This is an exercise in Buddhist/Qabalist negation with the objective being to move ones awareness through stages of
metacognition. Doing this is said to aid in revealing how one's mind processes the
subjective and
objective components of awareness.
Start the meditation by selecting any object in the room, perhaps on the table in front of you, then start peeling away the ideas your mind uses to give the object a context. For example, there is a pen on the table, but 'it' is not really a 'pen', a 'pen' is an idea, a subjective label, it is of course plastic and ink which holds little subjective meaning to us unless assembled in the right way ... the process is to remove the concept behind each iteration of what the 'pen' is to you at that moment. One can achieve this by trying to understand what is the object being used for or what is it doing or what is it doing to you and you to it in that moment of awareness. Then of course, negate it by trying to understand your mind's need in creating that context for you to relate to the object.
Doing this long enough eventually brings out a state of mind that allows one to understand how cause and effect work or at least how we perceive the dynamic. It reveals how the brain processes an event into a concept called a cause that may then, in turn, be used to forecast an effect within objective reality-- all of this should ultimately reveal a subtle relationship between thought and object.
Applying this dynamic construct to the particle / wave dichotomy yields some interesting thought devices: a particle is in a fixed state meaning it has a position in time and space with properties that can be measured and plotted, an object. The waveform construct allows for non-locality, oscillation between states and with the introduction of two waveforms one gets
quantum interference. The wave concept seems ideally suited to the subjective state embodying the un/consciousness mind as it oscillates between states of consciousness that we can meter through the monitoring of our brain's waveforms. Perhaps the particle / wave construct encapsulates what it is to be conscious, to be aware, abiding in both states of particle and waveform. We oscillate between states of awareness of our inner world, our subjective state, as well as an objective state that we all lock onto in order to relate to each other in context.
What brought this on was fixing on a plushy toy of a face grabber from the movie Alien, awesome movie. What an odd juxtaposition, the plushiness of the object verses the face grabber subject that I imbued the toy with or rather the marketing company imagined it to be. I thought wow a plushy toy that can instill a sense of dread, how kool is that?
In the end it seems all is subjective, an event must fit into our internal pattern in order to be processed in a 'meaningful' way, a way that maybe understood or have relevancy to us before we can relate it to anyone. The singular event, the particle, must be alchemically transmuted into the waveform and then its relevant meaning broadcast on the widest possible scope for all of us to grok.
