Indie Music Recs

[This week's One Piece = SO VERY GOOD. FRANKY. ROBIN. BROOK. OMG ILU.]

Recent Kaiser Chiefs kick caused me to start exploring the Indie Music Scene. So recs!

Stars: They do electronica but I've been gravitating towards that genre lately. They make techno sound pretty when it's always seemed harsh and jarring to me. And there's something subtle, sinister, sensual lurking in their songs that's just shiver-inducing. [My picks--Liar, Set yourself on fire]

Los Campesinos!: I've only got 3 songs but they're great fun. Energetic, unstable, post-punk goodness. Sort of like Be your own PET and Arctic Monkeys, but I like them better. I mean lyrics like "It's your party, but I'll die if I want to"? Cute. [My pick--We throw Parties, you throw knives]

The Voyces: Reminiscent of Beatles, Simon+Art Garfunkel, Beach Boys? Mellow but upbeat, beautiful but really catchy. I'm probably abusing the genre but 'Dream Pop' seems to fit them. [My Picks--Kissing like it's Love, Top of my Lungs]

OK Go: Yes, they're Indie. Wiki says so. But yay, Power Pop! My weakness. [My picks--Do what you want, You're so damn Hot]

The Shins: Uh, sort of Modest Mouse? But more pop. They're really soothing to listen to [like Travis!], there's some innate charm in the gentle melodies. But I don't get the appeal of New Slang. [My Picks--Phantom Limb, Turn on Me]

Explosions in the Sky: They're instrumental rock, but oh so pretty. And I'm not into instrumentals in general.

The Pigeon Detectives: FUN FUN FUN. Listen to I'm not Sorry (Dance to the Radio). OMG SO FUN. Plus they open for Kaiser Chiefs. What's not to love?

Bands I'm looking for (more of): Idlewild, Indigo Moss, The Aliens, SailorStar, The Feeling, The Faint, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club etc.

shut up i have good taste really, music
