Leadership means taking a stand on an issue and acting on it, whether alone or with support. A great leader not only seeks that support, but acquires it, building an army to execute the mission. It is often very difficult, and more bloody a battle than the actual war itself.
I listened to Obama's speech about his reasons why he thought a military strike against Syria was necessary. Although I do not agree with all of them, they were clearly stated and put out on the table for all to see. Then he turned it around. He told the US government that he was willing to hear debate on the issue, and that if people could provide solid arguments as to why we should not strike Syria, he would consider them and perhaps even drop the decision.
That is true leadership--the type I will emulate for the rest of my career.
