[Open RP] -- A Ball at Pemberley

Sep 29, 2008 03:12

For all his faults, let it not be said that Fitzwilliam Darcy was anything less than a most gracious and generous host. For almost a full two weeks and several hundred pounds out of pocket, he had managed to organise a ball of some magnificence as to almost reach the standards of his aunt, Lady Catherine (though he suspected that fully achieving ( Read more... )

While he's managed to obtain suitable era clothing, Ryan is never quite happy unless he's standing out from the crowd thanks to his fashion choices, which would be why he's currently dressed in a pricey looking regency moss-green suit. It matches with the current fashion perfectly, though may be a little more colorful than some are used to. And since there's a definite absence of a hat for once, his blond hair has been coiffed stylishly upwards. He likes to make a good impression.

Though he's not currently out on the dance floor busting some moves, he's more than happy with the current festivities going on, content to watch an on-going dance with a broad grin on his face while he helps himself to an offered tray of food. Hitching a ride here with Jenny was possibly one of the best ideas he's had in ages.

Darcy spotted him the moment he entered the ballroom. How could he not when amongst the sea of black, red and brown was a suit of the most stunning green? It was a fine piece indeed and already he could hear hushed inquiries as to the tailor springing up in the conversation around him. If this young man wasn't careful, he would find himself swept up in conversation about the high fashion of London with Bingley's two sisters. Darcy could at least spare him that.

"Sir," Darcy greeted him with a bow when he eventually made his way over without seeming too deliberate. It was, after all, terrible manners and against all rules of etiquette to look as though he were seeking someone out. Appearing casual was the key. "I do believe you are being followed."

Despite the whispers and stares, Ryan seems quite in his element, nodding cheerfully to one or two around him before he notices someone more familiar approach. And it'd be impolite of him not to greet the host with a broad grin and an elegant bow in return, for he's seen enough movies to know the custom around these parts, even adding in a polite, "Sir," to mimic the greeting. This is just like being in a play for him, except that little bit more authentic.

"Being followed?" He questions lightly, an eyebrow raising while he spares a moment to take a brief look around the gathering as if expecting to catch someone at it. Ryan isn't quite so used to being as subtle as someone perhaps should be.

"Quite," Darcy replied with a subtle nod to his left. There, standing by the wall and wearing a hat of great distinction, all bright feathers and jewels, was Miss Caroline Bingley, staring unabashedly in their direction.

"You have an admirer," he continued, sipping casually at the glass of wine in his hand. "I advise caution."

There's an attempt at being subtle, there really is, but Ryan's glance in her direction is mostly just outright staring. Stalker or not, he can't deny that the woman has certainly got some interesting fashion choices, and Ryan can't help but give her a tiny, and perhaps slightly smug finger wave in her direction.

"Is she not to be trifled with, sir?" He finally questions with a hint of amusement once his attention is back to Darcy, reaching for a wine glass from a passing tray.

"Not in the least," he intoned quietly, though his manner seemed friendly enough to anyone outside of the conversation (or at least as friendly as Mr. Darcy could be considered capable). "Miss Bingley is most preoccupied with wealth, you understand. Attachment is not something I would advise."

"Ah, I know the sort you speak of," he replies, tone low but still perfectly cheerful. Rich parents have at least allowed Ryan to grow up with the understanding that there's plenty of people who will go for you just for your money. "Well, sir, I can assure you that I have no issues with humoring her somewhat, but you can rest well in the knowledge that she's not exactly.. my type.."

"I suspected as much," he said with a curt nod of thanks. Really, he did not want to consider the mess that might occur should Miss Bingley decided to wholeheartedly pursue one of his guests. He imagined that the situation would become awkward for all involved.

"But may I suggest that you keep yourself very much engaged? Miss Bingley is not one to abandon such ventures easily."

"You know what? I believe I have a certain lady in mind to keep me perfectly occupied for most the night." He's not exactly sure where she is right now, but he's pretty sure he'll find Jenny in the crowds somewhere, and if not, she'll probably be able to pick him out a mile off in his current suit.

It's really quite a shame he can't dance with a fair few of the males he's seen too, but sadly he knows the rules of this kind of thing, and will therefore behave himself. "Oh, hey, I'm Ryan, by the way. Ryan Evans. I seriously think I forgot to ever tell you that."

Darcy bowed, one armed held neatly behind his back. "Fitzwilliam Darcy, Mr Evans. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance." He berated himself as he said it. If there was one thing Darcy prided himself on, it was his social graces, even if the air of them often seemed disagreeable to others.

"And a total pleasure to make yours too, Mr Darcy," he replies with an amused grin, inclining his head in return for the bow. "I really gotta thank you for the invite, sir. Never ever had a chance to do something like this. I've been to some awesome parties, but this is something else."

Ryan's certainly not the sort of teen who finds heavy music and under-aged drinking to be essential to parties. This sort of thing is definitely more to his standards.
