More Brushes with Fame

First, I would like to apologize as to my absence of late.

I'm working full-time in a permanent position as an accounting assistant to a local trucking company. They love me.

Also, Gail and I have made a successful bid on a house. We close the deal on April 24. We also get the "FORD" name plate from the front of Mama's and Papa's house, as I am the oldest and first married of the three grandkids who can actually use it.

Furthermore, I am also one month away from graduation as of midnight tonight. Additionally, I turned 26 as of the same time. Hurrah.

However, this week, I've also been in the presence of a few interesting people.

Last Thursday, amid tornado warnings and torrential downpours, ex-New York mayor and Republican presidential candidate hopeful, Rudolph Giuliani, stopped by downtown OKC to meet 'n' greet people at Earl's Rib Palace.

Now, I wouldn't normally have even headed that direction to get home from work, but since the storms had caused people to drive super-slow and like total idiots, I tried to avoid major traffic spots. Lucky for me, hardly anyone was driving through downtown around 5:30pm, and I started through, when I heard that Mr. Giuliani was expected at Earl's at any moment.

After completely forgetting where Earl's was downtown, I finally managed to get in and find a parking space just as the press conference ended. I made small talk with some of the local news reporters until his old-guy security "mantourage" shoved him forcibly out the door toward his $1,000+ per plate gala that evening. I barely got the chance to shake his hand on the way out before I popped open my still-damp umbrella and assisted un-umbrella'd people out to their cars.

And, at work earlier today/yesterday (I hate staying up past midnight and telling people about this stuff), the general manager of the Oklahoma Redhawks, Scott Pruitt, came into the office to try and get our CEO to invest in some season tickets. Apparently, our CEO has invested in Mr. Pruitt's political career as well.

I really wanted to buy some from him right there on the spot, but I lost my nerve. Still, it's always something to see, meet, or just be in the presence of someone who's been on television a lot. ... Bruce Campbell was still cooler to meet, though.

And, those are the people I've been rubbing elbows with in my LJ absence. Although, confidentially? You guys are a lot more interesting.
