I'm watching the pad thai episode right now, and it really looks like a fun thing to make. It reminds me of when I went on a mission to make takoyaki. It has so many neat ingredients that it seems more like a project than a recipe somehow. It looks like it may be hard to get all the ingredients in some places, but there's a Vietnamese / Filipino / Mexican market about a mile from my house, so I know I could do it. Has anyone else attempted this recipe? How'd it turn out?
Oh, and I love how Alton Brown said to convince the kids that the leftover tamarind junk is beef stew and "watch the fun unfold." I don't really know about tamarind paste as an ingredient. I guess it'd be good, but I just remembered my friend's tamarind candies smelling really...really bad.
