It was at a supermarket when Jonghyun saw him for the first time.
The supermarket was about as normal of a place that anyone could ever go. After all, what interesting ever happened at one? Jonghyun couldn't think of a single thing. As he walked around the narrow lanes of the supermarket with a happy smile on his head and his head bobbing a bit too joyfully, he threw random snacks into his basket. Fried foods, check. Cookies, check. Ramyeon, check. An abundance of breads, check. With a shopping cart that was nearly stuffed to the brim there wasn't a care in the world in Jonghyun's mind as he happily shopped around to restock Minho and his refrigerator. Being roommates with an obnoxiously healthy guy like Minho wasn't always fun. He would constantly complain and scold Jonghyun for buying junk food, so whenever Jonghyun got the rare chance to go buy the food for the month he would always make sure to keep his roommate in his mind. Jonghyun took pride as he pick the unhealthiest things possible. The look on Minho's face whenever he got home and saw his protein drinks were replaced with soda and high sugar fruit juice would be priceless! Jonghyun was nearly smiling from ear to ear as he walked along scanning the isles for more wonderful items to put in the cart.
'Let's see, what else can I find. Maybe something worse than all these combined?'
Jonghyun had his head in the clouds as he continued down the isle, ignoring everyone around him as he dodged around people on his never ending search. It wasn't until he turned the corner to enter a new isle that he saw something rather strange. Stopping his cart in the middle of the isle, his eyes fixated on the figure of a young man with blonde hair that slowly faded into pink on his bangs. While that was just a little strange in comparison to the sea of black hair that surrounded them, what confused the hyper young man was what this guy was wearing. It was the middle of the winter and he was wearing shorts? Okay, weird. Almost as weird as Minho's face. With white shorts that showed off rather shapely legs and a sleeveless white top that had a weird pink deco that covered it, Jonghyun stood there looking in confusion at the guy. No one else seemed to even take notice on this weird guys outfit as they walked by not phased and simply uninterested in the strange guy standing around in weird clothes.
But Jonghyun couldn't take his eyes off him, there was just something about him that was impossible to resit. It wasn't just in the physical aspect either, but something else about him just felt off. He wasn't sure if it was the way that his feline eyes would scan over the crowd, hovering on a person for a few seconds before a shake of his head before the strange man would start scanning the crowd again. Or perhaps it was how he kept crossing his lean arms over his chest as he checked the time on a clock that was on the wall. It was just kind of strange and Jonghyun wasn't sure why it captivated him so much.
Shaking his head back and forth, Jonghyun's focus quickly changed as his eyes found a rack of chips that he didn't yet have in his basket. Looking at how greasy and unhealthy they looked, in fact they looked so bad that they may give you a heart attack just opening the bag, there wasn't anything that could stop his legs from moving in the direction of the lovely potato chips. Scoping two bags into the cart, Jonghyun bobbed his head with a bright smile on a his face. Yes, these were just perfect. Now, he just needed to check out and head home. Heading back the way he came, partly to see if the weird short guy was still standing there being a strange person still, Jonghyun was surprised that there was no one except an awkward couple talking to each other in the middle of the row. Okay, so maybe the guy had something else to do. That made sense, entirely. He could have been waiting for someone to come with a jacket or something close to that. Forgetting about it, Jonghyun realized that he had everything he needed for now as he headed to the check out so he could prepare the kitchen before Minho returned home. Oh, Minho was going to be very happy when he got home.
The second time that Jonghyun saw him was at his university.
After having Minho nearly kill him earlier in the month whenever he returned home after a long day of practice and saw how serious Jonghyun took shopping, Jonghyun got to spend the following weeks trying to not get pinned down and beaten up. Was it worth it in his mind, oh yes. It might be a stupid type of rivalry but Jonghyun enjoyed pushing Minho's buttons any way that he could. But, those days slowly got less tense as the days passed by. With both of them attempting to focus on school, Jonghyun found that he needed to start actually going to his classes if he didn't want to waste his hard earned money.
“We're going to practice on Thursday right?” Jinki, one of Jonghyun's Vocal Skills for the Self-Accompanied Vocalist classmates, asked.
“Sure thing, let's watch a super sad movie and we should be able to get the emotions down perfectly for it. I mean, it's a song about tragedy so why shouldn't we feel like crying with it?” Jonghyun teased, although there was a little bit of seriousness in his words.
Whenever his professor assigned him and Jinki to preform tragedy by soul star for their final presentation, Jonghyun didn't think anything about it until his professor started to complain that he couldn't feel enough emotion for the pair. He must have been deaf because Jinki was sitting there nearly crying as he sung and Jonghyun thought about how Minho threw away all his snacks the whole time. It was depressing, beyond depressing to hear. But, it just wasn't enough so Jonghyun's genius plan was to get themselves depressed and sad so that they could see if that would give the stupid professor enough emotion.
“Sounds like a plan! I'll send you a list of movies and we can decide on one.” Jinki replied, as he waved goodbye and got onto the bus heading in the direction of where he lived.
Jonghyun was left alone at the bus stop, waiting for his own bus as he set down his backpack onto the bench next to him. With headphones in his ears as he waited for the bus, Jonghyun's attention was focused entirely on the music playing that he didn't notice as someone took a seat on the edge of the bench. It wasn't until he caught attention of the person through his peripheral vision that the familiar blonde head of hair caused him to look puzzled at the person. There he was, the exact same guy from before. The same guy wearing the exact same outfit without a care in the world.
Okay, this was starting to feel like a dream. A really weird and puzzling dream. Maybe more like a day dream though, since Jonghyun could swear that he was fully awake right now. What could this guy be doing out here in the brisk air wearing such a weird outfit for no good reason? It didn't really make sense to Jonghyun but since the two of them were sitting alone right here, he decided to take a better look at this strange character. Glancing sideways to be discrete as possible, which wasn't easy considering how obvious Jonghyun tended to be, he took in the features of the other. There was something absolutely exquisite about this strange guy.
Able to stare easier, Jonghyun noticed so many detailed that he never really noticed before. The way that his button nose was smaller than others, yet it fit his face perfectly. Perhaps it was how his high cheekbones helped to give off a feline appearance that elongated his entire face. He never really would have noticed how he had delicate eyelashes that would flutter close on rosy cheeks. Or his long fingers that clung to the edge of his shirt, that had short nails that appeared to be bitten out of nervousness. While it might have been kind of creepy to be watching someone like this, it was impossible to deny the strikingly beautiful profile that he had.
“Do you need something?” A voice asked, causing Jonghyun to suddenly snap out of it.
“Uh-” Jonghyun stared into the light brown eyes of the other, unsure of what to say or do. Considering how attractive this guy was, Jonghyun decided that the smartest thing to do would be try to the awesome flirty guy that he was. “I was just looking at your face. It's nice.”
That wasn't what he meant, crap. Jonghyun's mouth hung open after hearing that comment leave his own mouth, that was one of the most obnoxious things that he had ever said. While he wasn't lying in the slightest, Jonghyun wasn't really planning on saying something so straight to the point. He wanted to be suave and smooth in his comment, not just say the first thing that came out of his mouth. Well, hopefully it didn't insult him too much.
A soft chuckle escaped from the other's mouth. “Yeah, it is pretty nice. I have to agree with you on that. You've got a nice face as well. Really nice actually, although that's not the only nice thing about you.”
Jonghyun watched as the other's eyes slowly scanned his body before coming back to his face. Jonghyun couldn't stop the grin that crept on his face. Well, this was turning out to be very different that what he expected. Leaning backwards to look at the other a little better now, there was a playful look on the other's face. Feeling driven by the flirty atmosphere that was happening, Jonghyun continued to flirt. “Do I really, there's many different ways that we can use these pretty faces and bodies of ours. Now, isn't there?”
“Oh, that might be a great idea. I can picture a few things that we could do-” Jonghyun heard the other tease, although it went silent whenever the bus suddenly pulled up and people started to leave it. Jonghyun watched disappointingly as the other stood up and gathered his rather large bag from beside him. “But, unfortunately my bus is here.”
“Wait, one sec. Here's my number, give me a call or something. I'm Jonghyun.”
“I'm Key and I just might have to do that. Goodbye Jonghyun.” Key explained as he took the quickly scribbled note from Jonghyun's hands, and with that he gave a wink before getting onto the bus.
“You better.” Jonghyun teased back as he leaned back on the bench with a smile on his own face. With his number safely in Key's hands he could only imagine what type of message he would receive later on. Jonghyun sat there basking in his glory until one little thing suddenly popped into his mind. He wrote one of the digits wrong. He was suppose to write a seven but wrote a one instead. Feeling like the biggest idiot ever, he wanted to go cry. It had been years since a single person could make Jonghyun's heart dance in his chest so much, and he might have just ruined the chance to meet with him again. But, as the saying went if you meet someone randomly three times then it could possibly be destiny.
This was the second time that he had meet Key and if fate proved itself right then maybe they would randomly run into each other for a third time. He could only cross his fingers. As the bus pulled away Jonghyun waited for the next one to come, not knowing that he would be running into Key for a third time within a few short days.
