Summary: The world has greatly changed in the last hundred years. People aren't able to choose who they will marry and have families with any longer, it's entirely up to a silver letter to tell you your fate.
Masterlist “You are at my house, Kyungsoo. You had a panic attack at the doctor’s office so I brought you back here since you weren’t able to answer my questions about where you live.” Jongin explained, trying his best to sound friendly and polite. Jongin remained close to the door, watching carefully as Kyungsoo’s eyes seemed to become twice their size. Was it from the shock of waking up in a strange environment or from the sight of Jongin standing before him? Everything was ignored as the shock swallowed Kyungsoo. Silence contorted the conversation between them before the flood gates opened and questions filled the space in a haunting echo.
“Baekhyun, where is Baekhyun? I need to see him, not you. I don’t want to deal with you right now. This is too much, please just tell me where Baekhyun is?”
The ramble of words filled the air. Jongin tried to get an answer from Kyungsoo as he asked who this Baekhyun was but Kyungsoo would only repeat his words endlessly. Kyungsoo increasingly became upset as Jongin refused to answer any questions.
Jongin wasn’t sure what to do as he tried to reason with Kyungsoo. He tried to explain that he doesn’t know who Baekhyun was as he repeatedly asked Kyungsoo for Baekhyun’s home digit so he could contact him. Kyungsoo just continued to shake his head claiming that he wanted to see Baekhyun and no one else. Jongin would be lying to say that he wasn’t starting to feel a little frustrated by Kyungsoo. Again for what felt like the hundredth time, Jongin tried to explain what was happening. “Kyungsoo, please. I don’t know who this Baekhyun is. Without your help I can‘t contact him. Please, just trust me a little bit. Without your help I can’t contact Baekhyun and have him pick you up.“
“Do you promise that you’ll call him… and not lock me up?” A faint voice asked.
“I promise you.” Jongin watched as Kyungsoo looked around warily until he finally reached into one of his pockets and pulled out a small square shaped pocket calendar and tossed it over to Jongin. Landing on the floor nearby Jongin, the young man carefully picked it up. With a faint smile on his face, Jongin scanned through the pages until he found the name Byun Baekhyun. “Don’t worry, I’m going to call this Baekhyun so just try to relax. I won’t bother you.”
Leaving his carrier alone in the room, Jongin felt like his head might explode at any given moment. What was Kyungsoo talking about earlier? Why was he afraid of being locked up? It wasn’t a reasonable thing for someone to say. Was it a childhood fear of his? Shaking his head, Jongin quickly arrived in the living room where Sehun was standing in the exact same place as earlier. “Sehun, here’s the information. Contact Byun Baekhyun with an urgency notice and let him know that he needs to be pick up Kyungsoo.”
With a nod of his head, Sehun gathered the information and began to call Baekhyun while Jongin began to pace aimlessly around the room. With each step of his Jongin kept glancing towards the closed door that separated himself and Kyungsoo. His carrier was waiting alone in that room, broken and upset and it was painful for Jongin to be unable to help him out. He could only wish that the heavens would help him understand what was happening. It was really starting to get confusing and frustrating. Without saying a single word, Jongin walked in aimless circles for the next thirty minutes until the sound of a loud chime announced that someone was at the door. Jongin didn’t hesitate as he quickly opened it up, the sight of two young men standing awkwardly outside.
“Come on in, which one of you is Byun Baekhyun?” Jongin asked, looking at the pair as he tried to figure out which one was his carriers’ friend. While one of them was freakishly tall with a slight wavy to his light brown hair and a puzzling wide smile contorting his face, the other was shorter in stature with a concerned expression in those narrow eyes. The shorter of the pair spoke with a concerned voice, “I am Baekhyun and this is Chanyeol. Now, where is Kyungsoo?“
“He’s in the second to last bedroom.“
With those words Baekhyun quickly disappeared into the hallway leaving Chanyeol alone with Jongin and Sehun. Jongin could only stay behind and allow his mind to worry continuously. This was for the best, Kyungsoo could talk to his friend and hopefully calm down some. Hopefully. Standing near the door, Jongin quickly placed his hands in the back pocket of his jeans as he rocked back and forth on his heels while he watched the door intently. It wasn’t until a piercing stare made Jongin start to feel uneasy that he looked towards the other human in the room. Well, if things were suppose to be as strange as possible today than it was really happening. Chanyeol’s eyes were wide open and unblinking as he stared creepily towards Jongin. The hair on the back of his neck seemed to stand on end in this awkward atmosphere.
The pregnant silence filled the room until Chanyeol moved slowly in front of Jongin, gazing at him with that same expression. “You! Are you Kai from Terrene?” A deep voice surprised Jongin as he turned quickly to look at the strange person.
“Yeah, I am? How come?“
“You’re him, no way! This is freaking awesome!“ Chanyeol squealed as his eyes blinked rapidly. The conversation quickly changed from awkward to strange as the fan boy in Chanyeol broke through. “I’m a huge fan, I’ve been watching you guys for years! You are totally my favorite in the group, the way you dance always give me a boner. You’re doing a solo album right? What’s it going to be called, wait… you probably aren’t able to release that information. I mean, this is too cool! You’re Kyungsoo’s partner, who would have thought! I can‘t believe I‘m talking to you! But don't get me wrong I am not a close friend to Kyungsoo or anything, Baekhyun restricts me from talking to Kyungsoo, actually he restricts me from doing a lot of things, like just last night when I was trying to make a baby and he kept pushing me off. Now talking out loud about it it sounds kinda lame, I feel like I am ranting to you over my wonderful married life to the beautiful Byung Baekhyun, no offense to Kyungsoo or anything but you have to see how sexy Baekhyun looks with eyeliner. So what type of songs are you doing for the album, oh sorry there I go again. Sorry I am really nervous so I am sorry if I am just vomiting words at this point, I just had the biggest crush on Chen and I seriously wanted to marry Luhan but god! I wanted to do you so badly too or the other way around what ever works for you, you left me sexually frustrated for so many nights.”
Despite how creepy and odd it might have been to hear Chanyeol talk in such a way, it was flattering at the same time. In the four years since Jongin had become Kai, he became almost numb to all the complements and excitement from fans. They always would praise him in the exact same way. He was thankful to have his fans, but it didn’t make it any easier. With Chanyeol becoming increasingly excited in the conversation, the time was able to pass by quicker.
The soft pitter of footsteps caught Chanyeol and Jongin’s attention as they noticed Baekhyun and Kyungsoo slowly come down the hallway. Although Kyungsoo was walking behind Baekhyun, he looked like he had calmed down some which made Jongin feel better a little. Just a short amount of time with Baekhyun and Kyungsoo looked a million times better.
Baekhyun stood in front of Jongin, bowing towards him as thanks left his mouth. “Thank you for watching out for him, I know that Kyungsoo’s behavior wasn’t the best but it’s hard for all carriers when we learn about our duty.” As Baekhyun continued apologizing for Kyungsoo’s behavior, Jongin’s eyes slowly stared towards Kyungsoo. He was faintly hoping that Kyungsoo would glance at him, but instead he simply nodded his head without looking at Jongin in the eyes. Kyungsoo wasn’t looking towards anyone or anything, just starring at the floor. In those moments Jongin could see the shame blanketing Kyungsoo‘s face.
Jongin has this feeling deep within his heart that one of the main reason Kyungsoo felt ashamed was for inconveniencing Baekhyun. Not for behaving this way with Jongin, but because of Baekhyun alone. Jongin knew that he couldn’t afford to think in such a manner, that he has to stay positive for both of them, but Kyungsoo was his carrier not Baekhyun’s. So why wasn’t he able to make Kyungsoo trust him in the slightest?
“It’s not a problem, let me give you my information Kyungsoo. That way if you need anything, just give me a call. No matter what, I’ll come.” Jongin explained, trying his best to smile and appear friendly.
“Okay.” Kyungsoo responded quietly, as he followed behind Baekhyun to the door. “Come on Chanyeol, let’s go.” Baekhyun added on, as they opened the door and started to leave the apartment.
“Just a moment, I’ll meet you outside.“ Chanyeol added on quickly, turning back around to where Jongin was standing. “I know this might be odd, but can I get your autograph? My friends won’t believe that I meet you.”
“Chanyeol! Stop bothering him, come out now or else!” Baekhyun hissed, his head poking in the door.
Chanyeol ignored his carrier’s words as he focused his sole attention on Jongin. “Hey, since my carrier and your carrier are friends, can we be friends too? That way we can be friends forever and ever!”
Trying to decide on what to say back, Jongin was surprised when he suddenly saw a faint smile on Kyungsoo’s face before it was gone just as quickly as it appeared. Nodding his head to Chanyeol, Jongin was going to agree to that statement except Baekhyun closed the distance between them and successfully dragged Chanyeol out. With the door slamming shut, Jongin was left alone with Sehun in the emptiness.
Leaning against the door, Jongin felt overwhelmed with everything that just happened. Just a day earlier he was standing alone in his apartment without a care in the world, and now his mind was struggling to understand the events that occurred. Heading over to his couch to collapse and think on a little more comfortable surface, Jongin was surprised when the door slowly opened and a familiar face entered into the room.
Standing there with his comfortable pastel blue pajama bottoms and a loose oversized white long sleeve shirt, Jongin wondered what was Luhan doing out of his room? His eyes widened as he realized that Luhan up and moving around. It might be simply because Luhan was like an older brother to Jongin, but he has always worried about Luhan. Especially right now with his condition. Luhan was pregnant, with his first child ever, and Jongin offered to let his friend live with him so that he could watch out for him.
The entire pregnancy had been very difficult for Luhan. Not only was Luhan having worse symptoms than normal, Luhan was having to have the child without help from the government. Two months ago Luhan was in a car accident where he lost his donor and nearly lost the baby. Even though he didn’t miscarry the baby, the doctors told Luhan that the baby had been damaged during the car crash. It was defective and they wanted him to abort the baby since the government refused to take care of a defective child.
Even after he learned about those details, Luhan decided to kept the child even though he knew that the baby wouldn’t be take care of by the government. He was already four months pregnant and alone and the thought of throwing away the child because of a simple fault wasn’t fair to Luhan. The doctor’s were far from pleased about that decision so they told him that the child would be recorded as a sterile and he would have to pay for his own doctor visits if he wished to have doctor visits. Yet, Luhan didn’t seem to mind as he continued smiling. Now that Luhan was almost six months pregnant, the challenges from the pregnancy were starting to become more apparent.
Returning his attention to Luhan and away from his thoughts, Jongin moved quickly to Luhan‘s side. “What are you doing up? Was it Kyungsoo that woke you up?
Shaking his head, Luhan spoke softly. “Who is Kyungsoo? I couldn‘t sleep thanks to someone.” Luhan teased as he placed a hand on the slight budge with a beautiful smile.
Jongin could only roll his eyes at that answer. It was always the little muffin causing problems. Smiling back at Luhan, Jongin teased back to his friend. “It’s always your little muffin keeps you up so much. You should have just tired to go back to sleep, it‘s not even seven.”
A light hearted laugh left Luhan, as he shook his head. “It’s all good, with only three more months of little sleep then we’ll have another baby to add to the terrene family. Plus, whenever this muffin arrives then I‘ll have even less sleep. It‘s like practice, only starting a little earlier.”
That comment was enough to make Jongin smile as Sehun came over to where they were standing. Sehun moved quickly as his hand reached down and rested his palm lightly against the bulge of Luhan’s stomach, his eyes glowing as he began to check on the vitals of the baby. Since Luhan was living with Jongin and the doctor visits were extremely expensive, Jongin had gotten extra programming for Sehun so that he could be a midwife if needed for Luhan. Sehun spoke slowly, “The baby’s heart rate is normal and without any defects. Your own heart rate seems a little fast, Luhan. Jongin-nim, please sit down with Luhan if you are going to talk with him for an extended period of time. For Luhan’s health.“
A faint blush covered Luhan’s face as he nodded towards Sehun, “Thank you Sehunnie, I’ll go sit down so don’t worry.”
Jongin nodded in agreement as he quickly helped Luhan go over to the couch and take a seat. Sitting down next to him, Jongin wasn’t surprised to see Sehun move automatically to Luhan’s side and take a seat next to him. With Sehun’s hand resting on Luhan’s stomach, it had become a typical thing as Sehun carefully watched the infants vitals.
With the three of them sitting comfortably just like every other night, Luhan turned to Jongin. “So, who is this Kyungsoo that you were talking about. Did something happen related to him, you seem more down that, well, more down than I’ve seen you in a long time.”
Jongin took in a deep breath before explaining everything that happened. The words flowed quickly as he explained ever with detail and tried his best to explain how confused he was feeling with Kyungsoo. Constantly Jongin talked on why he didn’t understand why Kyungsoo wasn’t trusting him. Luhan nodded slowly, listening intently at what Jongin had just experienced. Luhan lets out a soft chuckle at how ridiculous he believed that Jongin looked with such a worried expression on his face.
“You are so stupid! Jongin, you are not understanding how Kyungsoo is feeling at all right now. You are just being a selfish brat as always.” Jongin looked rather insulted at Luhan while Sehun made a small noise of agreement in the background.
“You see Jongin in this wonderful present society, we know that having a family is the best thing in the world. We crave for a flawless future when we are children, but as the day comes that we are divided as carriers, donors, or god forbid sterile, our mentality changes drastically. Take me for example, I went thru procedures, many surgeries, and constant doctor visits for this little muffin. It was painful, it was stressful, and at the moment that I read that I was going to be a carrier all I did was pray that I had a natural uterus. A million things would stress me out and there were so many scenarios that went thru my mind. It wouldn’t have changed if I had a natural uterus, I know that now. Kyungsoo is just over thinking everything, we all do it. So, just relax and give him space.” Luhan finished with a dramatic hand gesture, that Sehun copied in the background, and a warm smile on his face.
Listening to those words were enlightening for Jongin, but it didn’t stop all the thoughts that were racing through his own mind. Even if a carrier had a lot of worries and concerns, it didn’t mean that he didn’t. Resting there with his head in his hands, Jongin hoped that Luhan was right. That things would get better and not worse.
"Kyungsoo, he sounds like a dork." Luhan said while forming patterns on his stomach with the tips of his fingers. He was most likely talking to Sehun as he sat there quietly with Jongin.
