So long ago, but yet so recent.
What year was it?
2000-01
What were your favorite bands or musical artists?
Steely Dan, Bodeans, Bob Dylan.
What was your favorite outfit?
Jeans and my blue flannel shirt.
What was up with your hair?
A little more than shoulder length in a hideous cut. Eegh.
Who were your best friends?
Sara, Tasha, Max, Spencer, Katie, Alex.
Where did you work?
Rocky Rococo's Pizza, during the summer, and Luther Hospital as a volunteer cart-pusher-arounder during the year.
Did you take the bus?
Sometimes, but mostly I begged my mom to take me to school because I didn't have a car. Man, it would have been nice to have Nix back then.
On whom did you have a crush?
Max, of course as always in high school, and Beth Gengenbach, which led to a great Winter Carnival party where I was hitting Spencer with a pillow and yelling "I saw her first, dammit!" I also went on a date with Emily Carroll but by that point I was pretty much over her.
Did you fight with your parents?
Occasionally. I mostly did things on my own and worked it out in my head and occasionally broke down crying to my mom in what must have been really weird outbursts because she didn't have any background on what was going on in my life.
On whom did you have a CELEBRITY crush?
That was the first year I started watching The Sopranos, so probably Drea De Matteo and Michael Imperioli. Mmm ... evil. And James Marsters, too.
Did you smoke cigarettes?
Nope. Nor did I smoke dope, drink, use drugs, or have premarital sex.
Did you lug all of your books around in your backpack because you were too nervous to find your locker?
No, I shared a band locker with Mei-Ling Anderson. We stored our basses in there, along with all of our books, and I decorated it with a Shaft poster and various things cut out from magazines. Occasionally Tasha and Katie would hide in it and jump out at me.
Did you have a 'clique'?
I guess I had two, which kind of intersected. I was in class with the smart kids/band kids, but I mostly hung out with the geek boys and the drama people.
Did you have "The Max" like Zack, Kelly and Slater?
Not really. We hung out at Rocky Rococo and the Acoustic Cafe, but my most frequent hangouts were probably Max's and Tasha's basements.
Admit it-- were you popular?
Nope.
Whom did you want to be just like?
Dunno. I empathized a lot with Willow on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
A political consultant or a reporter. I suppose this isn't as interesting considering I only graduated a few years ago.
