Daycare Etiquette

I’m procrastinating. Don’t feel like doing the tasks on my To Do list. The list keeps growing and my timeline keeps shrinking but it is hard to concentrate. Maybe letting go of the following frustration will help.

Something that I’ve experienced in the last several months…
I consider myself to be pretty good in social settings and etiquette. Recently I’ve been thrown into a different world and I find myself unsure about how to interact with people. Specifically, having your child in daycare presents a weird set of expectations on parents that has caught me off guard. The first occurrence was Valentines Day. I was thoughtful enough to bring a bag of chocolates for the caregivers (one big bag). Well I got the feeling that they expected separate pieces with valentines from Izzy. Also, other kids (parents) gave pieces to Izzy. I don’t understand this because Izzy cant eat it, or are other parents feeding their 6 month olds chocolate? Then Easter arrived and I didn’t do anything since we don’t celebrate. Izzy received gifts from his primary caregiver and other kids. The following Monday the caregivers asked how our Easter was and they all reacted weird when I said we don’t celebrate it. Do these people live in a shell? I can see many nationalities represented in the kids they serve! So, this week is teacher appreciation week and they request that you bring something everyday for your teacher (themed of course). On the first day I brought something for one person (his primary caregiver) even though I know that many caregivers work with Izzy throughout the day (a main complaint of ours). I got the feeling that they expected little things for all the caregivers, I don’t even know the names of all the people that they have revolving through his room! I should know the names of the people taking care of my child! It is hard to want to be nice to his caregivers (who are drastically underpaid) yet have anger and frustration toward the poor management that exist.

Cant wait for June 1st when he starts his new daycare.
