Back in December my friend
mercuric9 told me about the research of Dr. Izumi Tabata into high intensity interval training, and the benefits of a workout which he tailored. Now known as a Tabata workout, I have been fine tuning what started as just a 5 day a week push up and sit up set to a six day rotation between upper body, lower body, and abdominal/core sets. I dare venture to say that I have been bitten by a fitness bug of sorts. Every week, I look for new ways in which to challenge myself because as now I look in the mirror and am overtaken with a certain narcissistic pseudo-lust. I am liking what I see, now possibly 2 months since I started doing Tabata workouts. Part of me feels like I am becoming inordinately vain. And every so often the iron teaches me a harsh lesson in humility. Yes, I have started using free weights to intensify my workouts. There have been other benefits as well. I have a better tolerance for the biological warfare my students subconsciously wage against me. That has become another debacle all its own. I have a small handful of students who are themselves a handful. One of them almost picked a fight with me, until I motioned to defend myself. He hasn't been quite so eager to pick any fight since.
